How to get rid of blue banner at bottom: "URGENT INFO: CH 90" - it's blocking Closed Captioning

How to get rid of blue banner at bottom of the screen:  "URGENT INFO: CH 90" - it's blocking Closed Captioning and I'm hearing impaired and cannot watch any shows now without CC.

This just started popping up recently - it's a marketing thing to upgrade, which I don't want, and we can't get it to go away.

We've tried going thru the Menu, turn off/on, Reset - nothing works.

Whose brilliant idea was this?  Do they know it blocks Closed Captioning?

That "upgrade" might be required if your equipment is old. What DVR/Receiver models do you have? What type of satellite dish?

Thanks but we tried that too- didn't work. The banner has gone away for now, but it was up for about an hour, on any channel we tried. Very frustrating.

Will have to pay attention next time it pops up to see what the pattern is, if there is one.

@litzdog911  - you may be right.   CH90 only says "you deserve a no cost upgrade on us", not that it's required, but I remembered getting an email from them last fall (October !!) that said they needed to replace the old equipment. Then never heard from them again, and we forgot about it.

Guess I need to contact them again.

Thanks for the suggestion.

@Shayrun

if you do confirm the receiver model (s) of your boxes we can tell you if your equipment is obsolete and able to be replaced for free without a new contract. ( SD/MPEG2 complimentary swap)

You'll lose many channels if you don't replace that old equipment. It's free.

Thanks everyone for the help.  Found out we will lose some channels if not replaced soon.

The Model # is D12-100 fyi.

apparently the annoying blue banner is their 'reminder' from that email last year, (which we should have paid more attention to).

Yes, the D12 is an obsolete receiver that should be replaced with HD-capable equipment. If you don’t want DVR, you should ask for the H25 receiver as otherwise you’d be paying more per month for a Genie which requires an additional Whole-Home DVR fee and DVR fee itself

Is that D12 your only box?

I have the same thing on my screen! I was on chat for over an hour yesterday about it and as usual THEY WERE NO HELP!! Basically unless I was willing to subscribe to a newer service I wasn't going to be helped! Just know you're not alone and there's no sense in calling DirecTV because they will not help you.

You got bad advice. The swap to be compatible with the newer satellites and equipment is free. Sure, they may try to upgrade you to different equipment and more channels, but that's not required.  Best to call them rather than rely on chat.

Unless you upgrade to high definition they will not remove the message. It cost more for high resolution so it’s not a swap out at no cost. You have to get a new hi-res antenna along with the new box.

That’s free of cost @jjhog2992

It is called the mandatory Sd To HD swap. It includes the necessary replacement HD boxes as well as the SWM HD dish
