Noisy DVR!

I just got the standard Definition DVR, model R22 in my bedroom. I'm now finding that it's running all the time, even though it's turned off and the blue lights are off. I hear the hard drive and fan running constantly, producing a "computer-whine" type of noise like a computer is running. Short of unplugging this at night, how can i quiet this down? I'm told the fan will run constantly, but this is a noisy DVR, even more noisy than my Hi-Def DVR in my family room! Any advice on how to get this unit so it won't keep me and my wife up at night due to the computer-noise it produces?? -Allen

Both the fan and the hard drive run 24/7, regardless of whether the DVR is On or Off (standby). Unplugging it at night is not advisable, because among other things it can take 24 hours or more for the guide data to re-populate after power is reapplied. About all you can do is to try placing something under the DVR's feet to prevent the sound from being conducted into and amplified by the surface it's on. Just be sure you don't obstruct any air vents. |
