skipping and pixalation on dvr playback

asimm

During playback of some recorded shows/movies or our Genie, the skipping and pixalation is so bad that the show is not watchable.  Will a receiver reset clean this up or is this a hardware problem?

Try resetting the Genie DVR (red button behind front panel access card door).

Is this happening when viewing recordings on the Genie HD DVR itself, or via a remote Genie Client box?

I will try resetting the Genie DVR tonight.

It happens on the Genie HD DVR and the client boxes.  If the playback is

good on the Genie then it is good on the client, if it is bad on the Genie

then it is bad on the client box.

The Client boxes are just that and use the recordings and playback mechanisms from the Genie for all video/audio output.  If the problem persists, we'll need to determine if the flaws are in the signal received from the dish or in the recording and playback mechanism.  We can check the recorded signal by looking at the dish alignment.

You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR  tuners. If you have a DVR it's important to check BOTH satellite tuners.

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner on the new post you create, using the example below as a guide. (The example below is only an example and not a form that will appear in your post unless you "cut" and "paste" it.) A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

I am having the same problem, but only on the Rugby channel 490-1. Could you tell me which satellite to chack?

          Thanks.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, the Domestic spreadsheet does not include any of the four Rugby channels (489,489-1, 490, or 490-1). I saved it in case.

Well, it's not like you can really optimize just one satellite transponder.

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable).

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples.  A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

I was getting skipping and sound dropping out while I had HDMI cables routed through Google TV box.  When I ran HDMI straight from Genie to TV the problems went away.  It also fixed problems with the remote control being sluggish on fast forward.
