- What models are your other DirecTV Recevers/DVRs/Genies?
- What is the exact on-screen message?
- Does your TV have other HDMI inputs you can try?
- Have you tried a different HDMI cable?
If you have other DirecTV DVR/Receivers, you might try swapping this "bad" Genie with one of the good Receivers to see if it's a defective Genie or a problem with your HDTV.
We just have the one Genie DVR on our biggest tv, the other boxes are all standard HD boxes. There is no on-screen message, just a blue screen that shows the input is to HDMI1. The tv only has 2 HDMI inputs, and the other input is used for a splitter with 2 more HDMI inputs on it, one being used for our apple tv and the other is open. We've had the splitter and the apple tv for a year and they functioned just fine until this happened a couple weeks ago. The genie dvr is on, and it is recording, because we can see our recorded shows on all the other tvs with the regular boxes.
We are buying a new tv to replace the one with the dvr connected to it because of some other problems with the picture - it is a projection tv and it has white spots on it even when it is working. We know what is causing that and it's not worth fixing. But I want to know that the Genie dvr is working properly before we hook the new tv up to it. I will try switching the HDMI input and see if that helps any. Thanks-
My guess is that the projection TV does not support all the available resolutions and the Genie is set to a resolution the TV does not support.
Use the res button on the front of the Genie until a picture appears. Then go into menu, settings, display, TV resolutions, and then UNSET every resolution except 1080i (assuming your TV is HD, if it's not, unset everything except 480i)
