DirecTV Phone Promotions to Existing Customers

I keep getting calls from a DirecTV number asking me to pay for some gift cards like if I pay in advance, I will receive a credit.  I called DirecTV and told them about it, yet, they claim they never heard of that promotion, but refuse to inform their users of the attempted fraud.  I've read where others were taken advantage and DirecTV did not issue a refund, nor put out a notice that someone is using their number for fake promotions.  It's to the point, when they call, I have no idea if they are legit or not, so I stop taking calls, but I just call in, when I need something.

You are correct, that is a scam. Those calls are not from Directv, the scammers use number spoofing to make you think the call is from Directv. I’m not sure what exactly you expect Directv to do in terms of notifying customers but this is posted on their website: https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/directv/KM1159567. This scam has been around for years.

Interesting, none of other companies are being spoofed, only Directv, that's why they should make people more aware of what's going on.

Hi.

I have received 7 texts and each has its own number to call.

Not very intelligent scammer.

Yet there are people who still fall for it. And a lot of it can be automated these days. So they send out as much as they can and only takes 1 gullible person to make it worth it.

I didn't start getting spam calls until I bought this

Not sure why, doesn't really make sense.

We're here to share options to help you, @BillyEdwards

We understand you need help with those spam calls. Based on the link you provided it looks like a scam site and therefore scam calls also. These are the options to block scam calls:

  1. Go to your myAT&T account overview.
  2. Locate the My digital phone section and choose Check or manage
  3. voicemail & features.
  4. Select Phone Features.
  • You can also block robocalls by using star codes to prevent unwanted calls with the push of a few buttons.
  1. Digital home phone - press *61.
  2. Landline home phone - press *60.
  3. Choose Call Protect.
  4. Follow the prompts to turn on Call Protect.

Please let us know so we can better assist you.
