Stop monthly payments while out of the Country
I will be out of the Country until Jan 2020. Instead of cancelling the service I just want to suspend the monthly rent until further notice, is it possible?

Here are the suspend details so no surprises when you call DirecTV and set it up: https://support.directv.com/account-management/2430
The only thing the support page doesn't list is the $7 monthly Vacation Hold. The suspend cost is a new addition since the merger.

You can suspend the account for up to six months at $7.00 per month. You have to call.

Account still is ongoing in the system taking up space and is a part of system maintenance. Information on non-canceled account has to be taken into account for financial reviews. While suspended monthly statements still go out and there is online access to the account.
A small vacation hold cost is reasonable, even if mildly unpleasant for us as the consumer (it is only $7 a month after all). I've known other companies to have suspend options upwards of $20, so I find DirecTV's to be more accommodating even if they can no longer provide the option at no cost. Personally I wouldn't get that upset over such a small cost. After all, it is not like opening your doctor's bill or other actual costly service.
Whatever provider you go with, be prepared that most things are not free. Any that are can change at any time to a charged service.

Have you read the "Wall Street Journal's" article about at&t loss of customers equal to one and one half MILLION over the past year ?
Your intro was VERY interesting.
If someone charges $20.00 and Direct charges $7.00 (after at&t buyout) does that imply I should still get them customers for free ?? I did not have to transfer phone #s etc. to people I knew or did not know; it is called "being a AGENT for,,, say X.
I am with another company that has well trained customer service reps= joy to talk with since I talk with detail reps in Hospital. Yes,,,Medical People work for free many times.
P.S. Lastly,, I am "out of here". I have helped a few (I hope) complimented some other = U (I hope); but general quality of knowledge not up to snuff>> maybe at&t will learn and improve=NOT!
FYI,,, IF and only if you save up a lot of $7.00 quantum units you too can buy yourself a new FERRARI cash off the showroom floor in La Jolla (Southern) Calif. Not for bling; I like the engine. Tx

Well "Medical People" providing charitable work tends to be more on an individual basis. As a for-profit company, AT&T/DirecTV are not a charity. As a business they have decided that small maintenance/hold fee is appropriate.
If $7 is so atrocious that you must switch providers, then that is up to you. Personally I find it an overreaction, but that of course is just my opinion differing from yours.
(And you may wish to get a new keyboard as you have commas and question marks in generous quantity)
