2160 resolution

I have a HR54 DVR connected to a 4K TV but the resolutions list in the HR54 does not include 2160 resolution.

4K Requirements:

3rd generation Genie (HR54) on non 4K tv (can connect to a 4K tv, but will not provide 4K content itself)

C61K Mini Genie Client (wired only at this time) on 4K tv. Remember Client has no tuner of its own so uses 1 from the Genie.

4K tv must support HDCP 2.2, HDMI 2.0, and 60fps (frames per second)

Directv Installation, 4K tv must be there

Package Select or above as of 12/15/2016 (used to be only Ultimate or Premier)

At this time there are only three 4K channels. 1 regular, 1 select events, 1 PPV.

Even if you have multiple C61K Clients, or the built in Client of an RVU TV (not recommended), only one tv can be using a 4K channel at a time.

HR54 was too far into production when the HDMI requirements changed which is why it has to use the Client connection. As such there is no other way to connect 4K besides a Client.

Unfortunately if you only have 1 TV this means you would be billed as if you have a 1nd TV. Since there is only a couple channels in 4K, personally I do not think it is worth it. Even with a 2nd TV, I prefer a full HDDVR to get more capability and reliability.

The Genie-2 (HS17) doesn't connect to a TV itself as it is just the server for the system. So it doesn't run into charging a 1 TV home for a 2nd TV as it is not a TV connection. However this system is still a work in progress and forbids other HDDVRs from being on the account. So I do not recommend this system because of technical problems, but it doesn't have the billing concern for a single TV home.

That is because the HR54 can't output 4K over HDMI is was to far into production to change the HDMI port to the 2.0 HDMI required for 4K, you have to get a C61K mini to watch 4K programs in 4K.

I was told the HR54 should work. To go with the genie 2 I would need a mini
as well which would be charged as an additional receiver.

Sorry you were told wrong.  The HR54 cannot output 4K video, only the C61K Mini Genie can do that.  And the C61K works with either the HR54 Genie DVR or the HS17 Genie Server.

So with either the HR54 or HS17 I need a separate unit for which there is an
extra charge. 4K is definitely not worth it. There are only 3 dedicated 4K
channels and that would require an upgrade to the SL5 LNB for backfeed as I
have been told. I have the SL3.

No you don't need a 5LNB as DTV is shutting down the SD MPEG2 channels on the 119 sat in April and you only need the RB3LNB to get any future 4K channel if there are any.
