Caller id shown on tv

Our new directv box doesn't show a phone jack on the back of the box and I would like to see who's calling before I get up to answer the call. Am I missing something? Is there away to get this service back?

No. Directv isn't supporting caller ID, new boxes don't even have the connection. With less and less people using landlines, they probably didn't think it was worth it.

Caller ID on TV is a feature that has not been supported by DirecTV for years. It was just left to run as-is in the old software.

The new menu interface, starting with the 2nd generation Genie (HR44), removes outdate features from the menu. From the 3rd generation Genie (HR54) forward, boxes are not made with a phone jack anymore.

The feature was to encourage people to be connected to a phone line for a few things. Software updates on very old models, ordering PPVs by the remote, and sending anonymous viewing data. Now updates come solely from the satellite feed, internet connection services PPV orders and On Demand features, plus more people are using cell phones or VOIP phones which are not compatible with DirecTV's phone jack as it was for plain old telephone systems (POTS) only. So DirecTV will not waste money on a feature that is for 3rd party services only and not TV viewing.
