Cost to upgrade to genie dvr

What is the cost to upgrade my HD dvr to a Genie dvr? My existing Hd Dvr is slow to respond to remote commands and can’t record more than 2 shows at a time.

 Thanks

Dave

I performed the ‘clearmybox’ function and applied the ‘30skip’ feature on my HDDVR and it’s considerably reduced the sluggishness I was experiencing.

thank you for all your help.

If you are in good standing and been with DTV for a year then it maybe free, the upfront lease cost of a Genie is $299 and I believe the upfront cost for an HS17 Genie2 is $399

What are the models of each box you have? Which one is the problem one?

If over 2 years since your last upgrade (including adding an additional TV) and account is in good standing, then the upgrade should be free. Otherwise, a Genie is $299 for the one-time lease cost. Free or not, there is a 24-month agreement for any upgrade. As Genie is increasing overall tuners and may require other updates, it is tech installed. You also add $3 monthly for Whole Home DVR (assuming you aren't already paying for it). Even if upgrade is free (so not paying lease cost of equipment), there might be $19.95 to cover delivery even with a tech install.

If your HDDVR slows to the point of non-responsiveness, you also have the option of a warranty replacement. That is just $19.95 delivery. Covered if you are paying for the monthly Equipment Protection Plan.

Upgrade or warranty replacement, your recordings on that box do not transfer.

Thank you Shannon02 and Juniper for responding. I’ve been a Directv customer for over ten years now so will look into the upgrade of the dvr to a Genie.

My current dvr is an HR24-200. FYI, I also have a Genie HR44-500 in my home. I’m guessing there is no issue having 2 Genie DVRs. I don’t have the protection plan but wouldn’t object to a small fee ($19.95) for replacing the dvr. I understand Directv is raising the cost of its service but I don’t know how much as yet. I will wait till I learn of the increase in monthly bill as I may compare cost with Dish network and go from there.

Thanks,

Dave

Then you cannot upgrade. Accounts may only have a single Genie. It works as a server, and they never got multiple to work together reliably during initial design.

So, warranty replacement is your only option if troubleshooting cannot fix it.

Try a search for         clearmybox          this will dump the guide data and other things and it will take a day or 2 to rebuild any programs set to record will.

I’ll try it tonight and give an update afterwards if it fixed the sluggishness.

Glad to hear sluggishness is reduced. Hopefully it will be a long time before it needs that maintenance again.

Too many agents these days go to the nuclear option. It should be troubleshoot and then warranty replacement/service call if needed, with upgrade as an alternative to consider and not the go-to solution.
