External Hard Drive with 4K HR54-500 Receiver

I recently upgraded to the 4K compliant HR54-500 DVR/Server with the C61K-700 client.

Can an external hard drive be used with the HR54-500 to increase data storage?

Can either the USB or eSata port on the HR-54 be used?

Is the USB port 3.0?

Yes, you need an ESATA enclosure with a fan and an SATA drive and it will replace the internal drive and all programs are encrypted to the DVR so when it dies so do the programs as a new DVR will not see the programs.  weaknees.com sells them.

The USB ports only support the AM21 OTA tuner or charging small devices.

the HR-54 is NOT 4k compliant, it has no 4k output

it would be best described as a 4k server

This ia an old post - but thought I would add - HR54 will output via HDMI HD @ 1080p but not 2160p. Thus the requirement to have a C61K client to actually output 2160p via HDMI to the 4K TV. The HR54 and C61K are connected via the DirecTV coaxial network. Not positive if SWM is required or not - but I have a SWM16 and it works.
