Genie 2 wireless or cable connection
My Genie 2 is currently connected to wifi wireless. I now have a cable connection available from my router. Would I have benefits from cable connection? If not what about the dvr connection?

We always prefer wired connections when possible.

Wired (Ethernet) is preferred. With wireless (WiFi) you are subject to interference and degradation of the signal. That is not just DirecTV, but is the nature of the connection.
What do you mean by your "DVR connection"? Do you mean connecting your Genie-2 (HS17) to your Mini Genie Clients? If so, then wired is preferred as well. However, Mini Genies are wired or wireless, there is not one that is both. There is the Gemini (originally for DIRECTV STREAM but they are starting to provision them for traditional DirecTV) which is both.
To be clear you have two separate connection on your Genie-2. One to your internet router (Ethernet or WiFi) and the other to any Mini Genies or Gemini (coax or a proprietary wireless network). Your internet connection has nothing to do with connecting to your TV boxes as DirecTV is still by satellite.

So, I can simply change my Genie 2 from wireless to hard wire wifi. Correct?

No as it is hardwire OR WiFi. Remember WiFi is wireless, so there is no hard wire WiFi.
If you are talking about your connection to your internet router (for optional On Demand), than you can switch from WiFi to Ethernet. Will need to reset network defaults, power off Genie-2, plug in Ethernet, and after powered back on run network setup.
If you mean to your Mini Genie Clients it is not as simple a switch. Those boxes don't do both wired and WiFi. You would need to order from DirecTV wired Mini Genies to be installed to replace your wireless ones.
