Do all the same recordings show up on the genie and the hd dvr?

Yes unless the HDDVR is set for local only.

When you have 2 or more dvrs you can set the playlist to "all" or "local only", local only would show that dvrs playlist only and all would show both dvrs' playlists
Only the recordings on the HDDRV will show up on it AKA not sharing the play list on any other DTV receiver.
