Having trouble with your DIRECTV remote?

Program Your TV or Soundbar

Having trouble with your remote? Trying to program your TV or Soundbar? Learn what can cause issues with your remote signal and how to program your DIRECTV Remote below.

Please note, the DIRECTV Remote may not work with all TV or Soundbars.

The Remote Signal

The remote uses light to send commands to the receiver. If the receiver is blocked, this can affect functionality of the remote. Also, tempered glass in some entertainment centers can interfere with the signal. For the best experience, the receiver should be free and clear of obstructions

Also, turning the brightness down on your TV can resolve most signal issues. The remote uses a “light signal! and intense light can affect commands.

Re-sync the remote

The easiest way to fix your remote is by pressing and holding the Mute and Enter button until you see “Applying IR/ RF setup” appear on the screen.

Reset Your Receiver

Resetting the receiver may restore remote functions. Near the access card is a red reset button, press and hold that until the receiver restarts.

Test Your Batteries

Over time batteries lose their charge. Before you change them, test them. Press and hold any button on your remote. If you see a solid green light, this means the batteries are strong. If the light is blinking quickly, the batteries are still good but may need to be replaced down the road. If it blinks slowly or not at all, the batteries will need to be replaced.

Note: If all of the above does not restore remote functionality, it may be time to replace it. Chat with our support teams by clicking here. There may be a charge for the remote if you do not have the Equipment Protection plan.

Program Your Remote

If the remote controls only your DIRECTV receiver but not your TV, you can program your remote by:

    • Pressing  Menu. Go to Settings and Help >> Settings  >> Remote Control >> Program Remote >>TV.

Select the brand of your TV. From there, you will be prompted with step by step instructions to program your remote. For additional help with programming your DIRECTV Remote use this online tool.

Unable To Program Your Remote?

Not all TV's will work with the DIRECTV remotes. Some may have limited functions like:

  • Controlling volume

  • Turning the TV on or off.

In some instances, trying other model codes may work for your TV. Searching other forums or online may help you find the best solution. If nothing works,  uou may need to purchase a true universal remote

I was told to wait for a new remote which was $15 plus some cents which I had to "dish" out.  Yes, that is right ATT has the DISH too.   Nice to monopolize the airwaves as Comcast/Xfinity has the lines invading our homes.

The remote had been troubleshot as per instructions on this website.  I am more than aware of the operations of the thugs of the communications since I did work for Comcast/Xfinity.  So, when I state the remote which controls the Genie after 3 years was now not functioning.  I was told in a not so nice way to recycle it.  I know where I am going put that remote as well as the rest of the equipment in this home.

I have a total bill of over $173.00 WITH NO special sports packages. That is ridiculous especially since the video often macroblocks on a clear day and the Genie appears to have a personality.  A bad personality at times which I might add.  In addition, this Genie was sent to us since my husband could not understand the customer service operator which was obviously outsourced.  Not obviously since he did ask as I always do myself.  Your satellite will fly in the wind if you will unless you have the internet to set up any additional equipment.

I am free of ATT both mobile and TV and will now take the complete leap into streaming and choose what I want to view.  I do not watch bilingual channels and feel the need not to pay for them.  I do not watch voyeur shows which are fake, I do not care what self-made labeled as celebrities are doing.  I am very selective about which fake news I view.

I called to see if I might lower my bill.  Of course, I will have to skinny down to nothing and pay big.  The only thing big I am going to pay is an upgrade on my internet.  DirectTV made an error with the packages years ago and consumers are still paying for that programming as well as the people who enjoy watching by paying out their hole.

The above is the opinion of this current subscriber of DirectTV and does not any reflect which bi of polar I am in at this moment.

How do I sync up my Direct tv remote to the new television? The codes that came with the tv do not work? Thank you very much for your attention to this matter. Amy L.

Well, I've tried everything on Tivo and Dtv and forums, can't seem to get this remote to work.

I have a Roamio remote (a,b,c,d) buttons originally that went bad to a Dtv Tivo unit.

I bought another remote, but it's the grey peanut without the a,b,c,d buttons (older series 1-3 legacy I believe).

THR-22 Receiver Software 01C1.

I tried the Mute/Enter, Tivo/Power etc..but nothing gets it to recognize.(And there is no STOP button on this remote either)

The Red button does flash on remote, so I know it gets power and is sending signal.

Most help forums say goto "Settings\Remote\Pairing or setup remote - I don't have that on my Dtv Tivo - I have settings->Remote control -> then 5 options, option #5 is for Setting up IR/RF on remote. There is no pairing option available on interface.

I really hate spending 2 hours on a remote - there has to be an easier way - even if I have to toss this one and buy a newer Roamio remote I will.

I have two TV’s connected to one box, split through my A/V receiver in my family room. The other TV is in the kitchen. The Kitchen TV has a sound bar connected to it. I have two remotes, one for each room. Does anyone know if I can program the kitchen remote to control audio on the sound bar, even though I have another remote in the family room setup to control the volume on my receiver in that room? Can I manually program the “volume” device on the remote and not have to use the Genie box for remote setup?

The AT&T tech who installed my satellite dish programed my remote to turn on both the DirecTV receiver and the a/v receiver. Wish I knew their secret.

My genie RC73 volumn and mute buttons won't work. I've done the remote set up and everything works except those two.

Hello,

It is common that there is more than one code that seems to work with the remotes. If you find a code that seems to work, but notice a couple of the buttons do not work, most likely there is a different code that works also, except all of the buttons would work for it. I don't know how you programmed you remote but, If you are familiar with the 'code search' on the remote,

go into that search mode and if the first one doesn't operate all the buttons, run the search again and this time bypass the first code and go on to the next code and try it.

Hope this helps,

MK

I couldn't seem to get any assistance so I went to U-tube I found what I needed. It's working properly now.
