Instrructions for Sending Back My DIRECTV Receivers & Remotes

Hi,

I just cancelled my DIRECTV and need to send back the receivers & remotes. I was told to just bring them to UPS and to tell the UPS people to send them to the DIRECTV Recycling Center. Also, to get a tracking number and get and keep my receipt. Is that all their is to this or do I need to do something else? What about the cards that are in the receivers? Shouldn't they be taken out? Don't want them to fall into the wrong hands.

Thanks,

Ted

Either you or the DIRECTV rep seem to have conflated some instructions.

For gear DIRECTV wants back, you should take it to a The UPS Store or a FedEx Office , along with your DIRECTV account number.  They will pack it and ship it to DIRECTV for you, and will give you a receipt for it.  Hold on to that receipt.

For gear that should be recycled, I've seen mailers sent out, and I've seen instructions for dealing directly with electronics recyclers, but I've never seen instructions to take recycled gear to UPS.

Of course, The UPS Store or FedEx Office can help you sort out which gear is to be returned, which would leave you with the stuff to be recycled...

And you can either hang on the cards, or whatever.

What are the models of each box you have? That will be the key in determining if you return or recycle.

Access cards are left in the receivers.  You own the remotes to recycle at an ewaste center.
