last chance - expiring soon

After the new update, I now get a warning "last chance - expiring soon".  does this mean that some of my older shows will actually "expire" and disappear?  I still have plenty of room left - over 20%, and monitor the available space closely.

Hello @Earnhardt3fan,

I can understand the confusion of seeing the message “last chance – expiring soon”. I will be happy to help fetch the information!

What the message means is a notification of Pay-Per-View (PPV) titles which are going to be expiring soon. Also, on the screen it should have given you a list of recordings which are too old which can be deleted to free up HD space if you ever need to.

I hope this information helps!

Exactly What I was going to say. Never have we ever had any pay per view movies, and we have this message on some of our movies.

I know that my saved recording of the 2016 World Series (Go, Cubs,Go!) automatically deleted after having the dreaded exclamation mark beside it, declaring it Last Chance.  Please tell me that there is a way to change a setting to turn off Last Chance.

P.S. I want the 2016 World Series back on my DVR.

This is the worst part about Direct TV. Why should you choose when my shows get deleted?! With Dish we can keep our recordings as long as we want! We will be going back to Dish soon!

This was concerning to be as well as I was thinking direct TV was about to start deleting some of My recordings without me having a say in which recordings I could keep and for how long. Especially when I still had 20% space available and keep an eye out when I'm getting g extremely low.

Anyway, to my relief I have found out that if you to to all the recordings that have the last chance icon next to it and click on the more information button then you will see the following options on the left

Play

Keep

Delete

Other showings

Cast & crew

Click on the KEEP and you will be given the options to either:

KEEP UNTIL DISK IS FULL. OR

KEEP UNTIL I DELETE.

click the KEEP UNTIL I DELETE and that will remove that icon and when disk space becomes too low to store anymore shows it will no longer automatically delete those shows with the icon button.

You will be able to choose whack shows are deketed when needing more room.

All you need to do is change your settings on all recorded shows in list to KEEP UNTIL I DELETE VERSES DELETE WHEN DISK IS FULL.

I hope this is explained enough that you're able to understand. 😊

Thanks this does fix the problem.

Thank you lafott. Directions work perfectly. I added below encouragement as I "assumed" the Last Chance notification would disappear sooner. Gotta go the distance!

Follow ALL above directions for each recorded episode. Don't give up. ALL of your RECORDINGS with the blue triangle must be changed from (1)Until the Disk is Full to (2)Until I Delete. After all your recordings that show they will expire soon have been moved from choice(1) to choice(2) on each individual episode then a KEEP message will appear next to your folder for that series. Same is true for changing a single recording that has the troubling message.

This feature is Not Good. I recorded a baseball game tonight and started watching the recording at 8 PM. The recording was an hour old, was still “in progress, “ and, yep, the “last chance, expiring soon” icon was already attached to its listing!

Obviously, this feature is not ready for prime time!

Directv, you are about out of chances here.  Prices go up, and quality goes down.  As it is, I pay 130 a month for basically a bunch of infomercials, sports, and reruns.  No wonder you insist locking people into constant contracts.  Now recorded shows are disappearing, you are trying to charge me to watch a channel I already have, new shows are given last chance symbols, etc. none of which are PPV.  Why make "improvements" when they don't improve anything on our end?  I also see channels are starting to want to charge 4.99 for commercial free.  Shows that have already aired their new season long ago, you are advertising as a "new season".  No I dont want to unplug anything, no I dont want someone to come look at it, no I'm not upgrading my package, and I definitely dont want your wireless service. [Edited to comply with Guidelines]  Sad I spend so much a month, and don't get near what I pay for.

If I record shows, I expect them to be there until I, MYSELF chose to.  Not whenever you chose, with the exception of PPV.  These black boxes everywhere are turning into nothing but shooting range material.

Go to the list of last chance keep or delete the list.. After the list is cleared it will explain what this does !

This is no solution at all, none of my "last chance" are PPV and some were recorded yesterday (and I have 50% space available).  It is pure nonsense that we have an option in the series manager to "Save until disk is full" only to find that DTV randomly moves recordings to last chance and thus out of sight.  Please get your act together.

It doesn't really work all that well.  yes it will now keep the show when I push keep and then until I delete but then puts another shows on the last chance list to replace.  So what's the point.

Great to know I can change that option for future recordings. It's just a shame that it is not the default factory setting. I'm at 19% free, and have more than 30 half hour shows on 'Last Chance'. That's a solid 15 minute commitment to save the shows I never wanted deleted in the first place. I could do it faster, but it's Directv, so of course every remote click takes a few seconds. And there's a reasonable chance everything will lock up at some point and I'll have to reboot the system. I love when you reboot, and the message says "wait a few more seconds", but we all know that's code for 5 minutes. SMH

I'm a an experienced software developer. The quality of Directv software is abysmal. I'll bet $100, they are mainly off-shore, probably Bangalore or China. And not the top guys from there, but the guys from basically community college that got C's and work for less than $10/hour. This is the only logical explanation for just how atrocious the quality is. Someone said they were beta testing the fix for recorded shows hiding from you. I literally lol'd. There's no way they run a proper and effective beta.

Last chance should not be an option and now Direct TV sholud not choose what episodes I get to look at for Animal Kingdom??? Season 3 is all jacked up and not in ramdon order.  Guess its time to switch

I like how you asked the Tech why is the show deleting if there is free space and the Tech answers with a definition and how to free up more space.
