Receiver problem

My C31-700 receiver keeps telling me it can't find a server. It will eventually broadcast but only for 10-20 second then goes back to looking for a server?

Then it's probably time to call for a service visit.  Try again to reset both your main HR44 Genie DVR and the C31 using their red reset buttons.  There's not much else you can do.

To fix the trouble, you need to reset your main DVR at first.

I reset the DVR and receiver in question. It didn’t help. Any other ideas?

What model Genie DVR do you have?  If it's an HR34 it's junk and should be replaced.

It’s a HR44-500

Is the C31 your only Mini Genie Client box?  If you have others, try swapping.  See if the problem stays with the "bad" C31, or stays in that room.

Glad to hear you have the HR44, not the 1st gen Genie HR34, as vast improvements were made. Your C31 is a Mini Genie Client (not receiver) so is an extension of the main Genie. You mentioned already resetting the boxes, to verify did you resent the HR44 1st and only when completed then reset the C31? If not try that specific order so that the main brain is refreshed and the Client can recheck from the correct settings.

Since it goes back to searching for a server either the box is failing or there is a issue somewhere between the Genie and Mini. Verify that the coax coming into the Mini is finger tight. On the main Genie run a system test: Menu > Settings & Help > Settings > Info and Test > Run System Test. Neither box can watch TV, or have recordings going, while the test is running. See if any errors (other than cannot detect dial tone) pop up. Any additional errors could confirm if box or the connection.

After that call Directv 1-800-531-5000. If it is the box then delivery of warranty replacement is $19.95, and should result in a newer model of Mini as the C31 is non returnable being the 1st generation. If a service call is needed than $99. Both delivery and service calls covered if you have their optional equipment protection plan.

The error message itself says that your main Genie is not in the condition that the mini(s) can recognize it. Usually that kind of trouble ca be fixed by resetting Server, and after completing the resetof Genie, reset mini in trouble.

Main Genie is not in the condition? Is that the exact error message? If not please post the exact message including the error/diagnostic code.

If Main Genie is not in the right condition then perhaps a warranty replacement of it and not the Client is needed. But please post back with full word for word error message including the code to verify.

Then you might have a cabling problem.
