Yes-as long as you are in RF mode - you do not need a direct line of sight to control the receiver as you would in IR mode

be sure the closet has proper airflow to prevent the receiver from overheating

another Suggestion for you if you have other stuff that uses IR only like a DVD or blu-ray or what ever.
Add one of these to your Closet and attache the IR (eye) to the bottom of your TV and then you can move all your stuff top the closet!
