The call was a scam. DirecTV does not call you about equipment.
There is a real equipment update situation that the scammers are using. DirecTV is shutting down the old MPEG-2/SD-only feeds. Those who have legacy equipment must call DirecTV and request a complimentary MPEG swap. This way you are calling the verified number and not giving out info to a scam artist who has spoofed their number on the Caller ID.
What are the models of each box you have? That will confirm if you should call DirecTV or not. Either way, the call you received was by a crook.
