Why did my local station series recordings switch to national channels that I can not receive?

I discovered today that my series recordings that were set to record from local channels mysteriously changed to record from national channels (ABC/NBC East/West etc) that I cannot receive since I receive those networks over local channels. I am not able to switch the recordings back to local channels using either the series manager or by deleting the series recording and creating a new series recording. The only thing that works is using the manual record function or using the guide to set individual episodes to record. Very inconvenient and frustrating. What gives? Why did this happen and how do I fix it?

Hello @jeffisenman,

Thank you for reaching out to us.  I understand your concern with your series recording defaulting to channels you do not have.  I would be happy to assist you with this!

Given the information you’ve provided, the reason the recordings are to the national channels is due to a setting you choose when setting up the series recording.

If the series is set to record “First run only”, the system will record the first airing of the episode for the series.  The national channels air these episode before local channels which is why the system goes there first, even if your package does not include those channels

Please let me know if this helps. I look forward to hearing from you!

There is a post here that this is a bug, the work a round is to set up each episode manually and not use the series manager to set it up.

This answer is WRONG! There is a known problem with the GENIE 2 YET AGAIN!

John, ATT Community Specialist,

You response is not helpful and did not answer my questions. I had existing recordings that were recording just fine from local channels. On January 31st these recordings switched to the national channels. I took no action to make this happen.

My question is why did this switch happen and what do I now need to do to set up recordings of first run episodes from specific local channels? Yes I can use the manual record function to record a given time slot for specific channels but I cannot specify first run episodes. I am assuming that someone "fixed" software that was not broken and induced this bug. Is there a plan to fix this problem?

Ummm, that's just silly, John.  Then how is one supposed to setup a Series Recording on their local channels?!?  Clearly this is a bug, as has been reported elsewhere.  Let's please get fixed soon!

John,

Your answer does not make sense as I had recordings setup and working for several months and on Jan 31st they changed to recording different stations.  What happened on this day and how is it going o be fixed?

This also happened to me, I missed all my recordings and am not very happy about it, this needs to be fixed now, or at least given a proper response, manually recording every channel every day is not the answer, I need to block out the national feed so the DVR does not try to record my series on channels I don't get instead of the local channels I do.

This is a bug with the new UI.  John at attcares should KNOW THAT!

Until this is fixed you can set up individual recordings using the Channel Guide and the correct local station.
