Why is audio description on while viewing some ABC network shows?
I have not made any changes to my TV or my satellite receiver but yesterday ABC shows like the Good Doctor and Will Trent started playing an audio description of certain events during the show when the the actors are not speaking. I have searched and cannot find a way to turn the audio description off on the TV and the receiver and have found nothing This narrative is very annoying so I was wondering how to turn it off. Has anyone experienced this behavior and figured out how to turn this off?

Hello. Thank you for bringing your concern to us about it. This feature is the Descriptive Video Service (DVS) and is included on ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX, so you have an alternate audio setting.
We want to make sure, did you try the following steps?
DVS can be turned on/off by selecting a language other than English in the receiver's audio setting using the DIRECTV Remote. You should press the INFO button and then the Up Arrow button. Jeison, DIRECTV Community Specialist

This evening I tuned into my local ABC network station and the audio description I noted previously was active on that show. On my Genie remote for my satellite receiver, I pressed the INFO button and then the UP arrow button as suggested however I did not find any option to change the audio language to something other than English. I did go into settings and found an option to change the language to something other than English however after making a change, the audio description continued to be heard during pauses in the actor's dialog. If I've done something incorrectly or there's a better way to do this I would appreciate an update.

AFAIK the audio description mode is under the CC(closed captioning) menu, Info>right arrow to CC.

There seems to be a misunderstanding here. I have Directv satellite service and have an R44/700 Genie Receiver on my primary TV where the problem I'm having is most critical. So far the suggestions people have provided do not seem to work as the settings described are not available on the R44/700. I have contacted Directv tech support and they had me confirm my settings but didn't seem to know how to turn the Audio Description off on their end. I've also called Samsung and they indicated that my settings on the TV were correct as well but they didn't know of a way to turn it off either. As a last resort I've restarted the R44/700 receiver and power cycled the TV in the hope that one of these actions will turn off the Audio Description function but I don't have high hopes. If anyone has any further information or suggestions please let me know. Thanks.

I don't have directv anymore so I can't confirm this but have you checked video settings because it's descriptive VIDEO

So far, nothing specific. Late last week I decided to pull the plug on my DirecTV Genie receiver and at the same time unplug the power from my Samsung TV. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence or not but when we tuned in Monday night to watch the Good Doctor, which was a new episode, there was no descriptive audio so give that a try and post back to this tread if that worked for you as well.
