Apps and Google voice
I bought 4 direct TV streaming devices under the impression that I don't have to have direct TV stream and that the boxes can be used a streaming device for the apps such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. Up until 3 weeks ago, it's asking me for a login for DirecTV stream. Really? $120x 4 for something I can't use. And for customer service, no one knows anything and to top it off now my voice control on the remote has stop working

Where did you get the idea that DirecTV Stream boxes didn't need a DirecTV Stream subscription?

That is what I was told before I purchased the boxes through direct TV and since this issue has occurred that's also what the customer service representative and escalation representative are telling me. When I turn on the boxes it used to come up on a light blue screen that gives option: settings and my apps

They even sent me replacement boxes because they are saying it is an internal issue

As far as I know, DirecTV Stream boxes require a subscription.

@ybevans20 DIRECTV STREAM probably added bug fixes to their software and this was one of those bugs that was fixed. Therefore, they are requiring all DIRECTV STREAM Osprey boxes to have a subscription now.

Let us share with you that our devices are designed for our DIRECTV STREAM service and in order to improve the customers experience we have the automatically signing feature. So, it'd necessary to have a Stream account for accessing to third party Apps such as Netflix, Amazon, etc.

That's so weird. If that's the case why bother sending me 4 new boxes. Just doesn't make sense. I guess at this point, all I can do is send the brand new boxes and request a refund for the previous boxes. They should really tell their employees that information and not allow them to just sell the boxes as a streaming source.

If you wanted an android tv box u could have just bought a tivo stream 4k....or an ONN android tv 4k at walmart for 20 bucks.

Why would you spend $120.00 per box if you didn't intend on using the DirecTV streaming service to begin with, a Roku or fire stick is much cheaper

I'm really puzzled why anyone would buy FOUR $120 DirecTV Stream boxes without planning to use the DirecTV Stream service. There are much better, and cheaper, streaming devices available (Roku, Fire, etc.).
