The DIRECTV STREAM box is compatible with DIRECTV satellite remotes so yes.

You can use the RC66RBX remote or the RC73B remote.

Can you use U-Verse remotes with the DIRECTV Stream box?

No.

The Dtv Stream box remote is backlit. Light doesn't stay on very long, though. Only when you are pressing buttons.

As Ludwick577 indicates, you can use the backlit Directv satellite remote, which works well with the Directv Stream box.   The only feature you will lose in the Google Voice commands.  Walmart sells the remote for around $25.
