Directv Stream device tries to connect to wrong HDMI input

Recently purchase refurbished Directv Stream device for use on LG OLED48C1.  Originally attached to HDMI 1 input.  Moved the connection to HDMI 4 due to some cabling Issues.  There are no devices connected to HDMI 1 and LG Dashboard reflects that status.

When I power on the Stream device it tries to connect to HDMI 1 and I have to manually connect to HDMI 4.  Frustrating to have to go through the extra step.  I have not been able to find any setting on the Stream device or on LG that would cause this.  Would appreciate any suggestions on how to get Steam device to connect to correct HDMI input.

It's an LG issue. The DirecTV Stream box doesn't determine which TV input to use. Check your LG TV settings to see if there's any sort of "default input on power on" settings.

Is your LG tv's HDMI-CEC on? If so, whenever you power on your Dtv Stream box the tv should automatically change to that hdmi input. I think LG calls is SIMPLINK

Thanks for the response.  SIMPLINK is on.  When I power on the Stream device, it connects to the correct HDMI port for a second or so then tries to connect to the original port that I connected it to.

Happens to go back a forth between ports. Since I posted earlier today, I tried to power on with my LG Magic remote and that worked correctly. I have another stream device and tried that remote and the power on worked correctly.  Have tried to reset the remote and that did not correct the problem.

I have a new LG OLED C2 (77") and I'm having similar problems.  I have DTV Stream box connected to HDMI 2 and Direct TV Satellite to HDMI 4 (and a ROKU on HDMI 3).

When I turn on my DTV Stream box the TV goes to Home then HDMI 4.  I have to go in and manually change it to HDMI 2.   It's very weird.  My samsung doesn't do that.

Problems similar with LG.  After reading posts on LG OLED and Direct Stream subreddits I did a Factory Reset on Stream device, and this corrected my problem.

It seemed that I had moved the Stream device for one port to another and I ended up 2 LG ports used as "ATT STB's", with results similar to what you are seeing.  I can't explain why this occurred, but appears to be some handshaking between LG and Directv.

Had similar issue with CX series, where it would jump back and forth between inputs 1 and 2, and eventually land on input 2 despite directv stream box connected to HDMI input 1. I tried all kinds of different things, but what finally fixed it for me was doing a Diagnostic reset and it resolved the problem.

zecob.  Diagnostic reset on which device?  TV or DTV Streaming box?  And, can you clue me in how to do a diagnostic reset?  I've never heard of that.  Thanks.

@janice805 on Directv Stream device. Go to Home -> Settings icon -> System -> Restart/Reset -> Diagnostic reset

In any case, the DIRECTV STREAM box has no control of your TV's choice of inputs.  It can generate signal on the cable connected to it, which should cause your TV to react to the signals it generates.   It does not know what HDMI port on the TV it is connected to, and doesn't know that you've moved it from port 1 to port 4 (though it can tell that it was disconnected from a TV for a while, and it can tell what TV model the TV tells it it is).

Doesn't unplugging your tv from the power outlet for a minute or two do a reset? Try that.

@JefferMC I disagree. There is an HDMI CEC handshake going on of some kind that can initiate an input change on the TV. I can be on a different input, and upon clicking the Home button the the DTV remote, it will cause the TV to switch back over to the DTV Stream device. I understand with HDMI CEC control, turning on a device can automatically cause a TV to switch to that input; that can be expected behavior depending if the correct settings are turned on. However, what I am saying is, I can have the DTV Steam box already on, switch to a different input, click the Home button, and the input will change back to the DTC Stream device. That has to be the DTV Stream device initiating some kind of CEC handshake telling the TV to switch inputs. Also, the OP and myself have both confirmed doing a factory/diagnostic reset resolved our problem.

OK zecob.  The Diagnostic Reset (so far) has WORKED.  Thank you!!!

But, it wiped out all my Apps.  I had to reinstall them and figure out my User ID and Passwords.  That took about an hour.

And, it recognized that I had an 4K OLED and turned on HDR.  While it looked beautiful, the picture was so INTENSE that I feared it might not be a good choice for watching regular TV about 10 hours a day.  Thought it might damage the panel, so I turned it off.

There is an CEC category called "One Touch Play" which "allows devices to switch the TV to use it as the active source when playback starts", i.e. not "switch to HDMI 2" but "switch to this HDMI input".  There are other CEC categories that allow for the sort of thing you are talking about (and I think the FireTV Cube supports these so that it can make the TV switch between inputs other than itself, i.e. tell the TV to switch to the cable box), but I don't think the DIRECTV STREAM box makes use of anything but the "One Touch Play" type.

Have this exact problem.  DTV Stream box was originally on HDMI2 (Cable box was on HDMI1 during setup).  Got rid of cable and moved the DTVStream box to HDMI1.  When I power on, my Samsung TV comes up on HDMI2, even though it was last on HDMI1.

Will try the Diagnostic reset, but was hoping for a less destructive solution.

Did you edit the inputs as well? I have a Samsung Tv and mine has the ability for each input to detect the device and name it, program the Samsung remote. You can do a soft reset but unplugging from the power outlet for 1 minute--it's not a diagnostic reset.

Do you have "Anynet+ HDMI-CEC" turned off or on? Under settings--general---external device manager.

Also try hitting the home button the remote. Scroll left to "source" then select "connection guide" and setup the HDMI input there.
