DirecTV Streaming Limit Issue

I've been having a ton of issues with the "streaming limits". I've already changed my home network 4 times, and support says they won't do anything about it. I'm not sure why my IP address keeps changing, and my ISP won't give me a static IP. I'm basically going to have to cancel my service because of this feature. It seems like I'm not the only one with this issue.

You need a static IP. You should be able to get one from your ISP although they will probably charge you for it.

I've already tried to get a static IP, and they said it wasn't offered in my area. Even if I could, wouldn't my IP probably change 1 more time when I switched to a static IP? Or can they make my current IP "static". I'm already at 4, so I think that would still not help me if I can't keep my current IP.

Then your only option is to change services. DirecTV Stream is not going to change their policy.

Hello @agrigsby81, we are here to help you with your DIRECTV STREAM concern.

To enjoy of the DIRECTV STREAM service without the streaming limit issue, it is important to have a static IP. To do so, it would be necessary for you to get one from your ISP.

If you have further questions, please don't hesitate in letting us know. We'll be glad to help.

Also @TexasBrit, we appreciate your prompt, and accurate answer.

Could somebody tell me what this streaming limit is?  Static IP addresses are not available from our ISP so we always look to AT&T like we are not at home.

The connected device limit has not been an issue yet, but I need to know if this streaming limit could be a problem waiting to happen.

Hello, @bakers_12  We always prioritize and work on our customer's safety. Our customers have a limited number of opportunities to change their home location, which is 4 changes within a 12-month period.

Let's meet in a Direct Message to take a closer look on this. Please check your DIRECTV Message Inbox (It's the chat icon next to the bell icon in the upper right corner of the Forums)

I don't see anything that looks like "Direct Message" or "Message Inbox" on my screen.  Here's what is around the bell icon:

Clicking on any of these does not provide the options you mentioned.
I checked my user profile and saw an opt-out option for direct messaging, which was and still is unchecked.

You have 3 on the go streams 2 of which can be TVs as long as you don't have more than 2 TV's on at the same time then you should be fine for your third stream since you cannot use the home function as long as you don't try to stream on more than 3 devices at a time you should have no problems with the streaming limit unless you switch to a different internet provider that has a static IP.

From a chat I had with Nicolas, it sounds like the only limit to out-of-home streaming is the device limit which I knew about.

I misinterpreted what I was reading here.  I was thinking there were other limits as well, such as a maximum on data transfer or something.

Clearly now, I was reading too much between the lines and I really don't have anything to worry about.

I would add, however, that requiring a static IP address is a poor choice for designing this, especially from a company that is itself an ISP.  They should know better.

Thank you to everybody that helped me understand this issue.

@bakers_12  Thank you for clarifying and helping other Forum users understand better our DIRECTV STREAM - streaming limits.

About the home location change limit, we're always working to improve our customer's experiences with our STREAMING services.

And regarding our out-of-home streams: Customers can enjoy up to 3 streams at the same time on a mobile or streaming device away from their home network. Only 2 out-of-home streams can be on compatible devices connected to a TV.

Please don't hesitate to contact us here through our DIRECTV STREAM Forums for any future assistance.

Thanks for choosing DIRECTV STREAM, have a great rest of your weekend.

If the issue continues, try these tips:

• Close and restart the DIRECTV app.
• Look for DIRECTV app updates in your app store. If available, update your app and restart your device.
• Uninstall and reinstall the DIRECTV app.
• Restart your DIRECTV STREAM device, if applicable.

Greeting,

Rachel Gomez
