By the nature of the technology, satellite cannot be as stable as a wired connection.

My point is that DIRECTV STREAM may be weaker to any minor fluctuations that other streaming services are not. And remember, DIRECTV STREAM is live channels where other providers are pre-recorded content upon request.

Interestingly, I have not heard consistent complaints with DIRECTV STREAM on other satellite internet providers (such as HughesNet). This says to me that something between the two causes DIRECTV STREAM and Starlink to not like each other.

Same problem since Monday. It’s 100% not a latency or drop out issue. Just open developer tools on the web interface and you’ll get tons of CORS and 403 errors. Of it was just latency, then the thumbnails or DVR listings would load.

To Juniper,   Starlink is not Hughes Net.  It's a low orbit Satellite with low latency.  Mine worked fine for a year and then just stopped this week.  Funny how it's happened to so many people.

I also just signed up for the YouTube TV five day trial just to hold me over, and it works just fine on Starlink which would negate the argument that the live Tv nature of DTV Stream has anything to do with it.

The YouTube TV app looks and feels a little dated. The Station thumbnails are very small to read from the distance and the operational flow of the app is a bit convoluted. That is why we chose Direct TV Stream. That app seemed to be a little more intuitive in the operation. I just hope DTV Stream will get fixed very soon to work with Starlink. I'm surprised that no one from the DTV support team has commented yet to give us a technical update.

Has anyone actually contacted support? This is not support forum but an open sharing community forum of subscribers and users sharing ideas and experiences.

@bcbsncjlj I did contact on Monday and after an hour of debugging they said they put in an escalated ticket (but I had no provided ticket number). Then I also posted on their subreddit where support reps hang out. I talked to a Luis over there and have tons of details on how it’s not working and even linked them to this thread.

That's good. Have you reported the issues to Starlink?

@bcbsncjlj no I haven’t contacted Starlink. I doubt they would help, but I’ll try tomorrow just so it’s on their radar.

My totally unconfirmed hypothesis is that Starlink obtained a new IP range and DTV is blocking that range. It makes sense that all the affected DTV users seem to be  in California. Or there’s possibly some DTV proxy caching requests. I’ll probably try a VPN to see if that fixes the issue.

Basic debugging on the web app shows HTTP requests hitting DTV’s servers (looks like they’re hosted on AWS) and getting a response back to the web browser, but DTV’s servers are retuning a 403 forbidden error. Because of this I’m 99% sure this a DTV issue.

I have contacted AT&T support for my DTV Stream issue. Not much help. They escalated the ticket to 'higher up'. I asked to be connected to a Supervisor in the US. No luck. They would not do it. This is the same poor problem resolution I have experienced with my many problems with AT&T Fixed Wireless Internet where an AT&T cell tower repeatedly had problems with shutting down. To get service back it sometimes took weeks before they repaired it. Every time I had to write a letter to the Office of the AT&T President to get real problem resolution. Unfortunately, I see the same pattern here with DTV Stream again. AT&T was the reason I finally tired of all the service support calls and applied for Starlink Service which so far has been wonderful with its low latency Internet. I see no reason to contact Starlink as all the other apps are working. AT&T customer service leaves very much to be desired.

@KBo

I asked to be connected to a Supervisor in the US. No luck. They would not do it.

That is because they cannot do that. When you call you get the next agetn available. There is no way to request anything specific about the agent, be that where they are located, where they were born, gender, cultural background, etc.

Just because all other apps are working is no reason to not contact Starlink. At least if you report the problem, then that gives a chance in case they need to make any small update on their end that specifically interacts with DIRECTV STREAM. Best not to assume and instead have all bases covered.

And because of this issue that is ongoing, that hasn't got a straight answer from either DirecTV or Starlink (likely agents over the phone wouldn't know the cause as needs to be looked into their internal engineering), a BBB complaint (to both) could be considered.

Starlink also has their own community forum.

If all the other apps are working, and Internet is great for everything BUT DirecTV Stream.. what would starlink do?    Maybe I don't understand the Internet well enough, but if everyone else can do it, then it's a DTVStrean issue to get resolved.

Have same issue in AZ.  Started Tuesday.  I tried a ryoko hotspot with at&t sim.  It also will not access directv stream.  Just freezes on splash stream. 2 calls to directv...useless.  just put in trouble ticket to starlink...will probably hear back next month.

@TroyClark

With DIRECTV STREAM being all you notice being affected, then it leans that it is more likely to be the TV provider's issue. However, issues may be specific enough to only affect a single service. Or there may be other services affected out there that you don't personally have. Nature of technology, problems can be broad and general or very specific. Only by reporting the issue and having troubleshooting done can the actual cause be determined.

From the reports in the forum, the issues are for DIRECTV STREAM customers who go through Starlink. Since there aren't a mass of reports for the same problem through other internet providers, that is why I say it is an interaction between DIRECTV STREAM and Starlink specifically. Since at this time it is unknown on which end is the cause of the issue, it is best to report to both.
