Hi @ScienceBoss!

We'd love to help you here! To get started, make sure your TV setting is properly set to subtitle. Press the home button on your remote, select the cog icon(top--right corner) to access Settings> Accessibility> Subtitle.

You can also set your closed captioning on your receiver depending on the type of your receiver or DVR. We suggest you view this article to get more details on how to Turn on DIRECTV closed Captioning.

Let us know if you need anything else!

Go to settings then accessibility and change the digital track to Service1.   That will fix it.

I agree...I have n ever had a problem with CC when Direct TV owned the company....but since the ATT turnover....the Closed CAption is very spotty.....It shows 3 words....then 3 words....seldom complete sentences....very frustrating.   I tried all the fixes above and reset the entire Unit.   Still didn’t fix the problem....HELP!!!!

I have the same problems. Samsung Smart TV. HR44; Genie units work on other TVs; Main DVR still the problem; Reset multiple ways, set on TV and DVR; ABC OTA works but not on DIRECTV; Has been spotty but now almost never works. Called and filed a complaint but have NEVER heard anything back one way or another!

Also having difficulties with DTV since AT&T (a co. I have hated for years, and my opinion is more bitter now than ever). Over the past several weeks, closed captions stopped working entirely on some channels, then began to display incompletely on some channels, then stopped working on some receivers and not others, not working on the same channels on ALL receivers or working on some channels on one receiver but not on the same channels on other receivers--and I am at the end of my rope. I have obviously tried resetting receivers, checked every connection I can find on every receiver, and the problem persists. I am going to be forced to call and schedule a service call unless I suddenly find a solution here. So far I haven't. I suspect DirecTV is about to lose another customer. I can't take AT&T any longer.

I seem to be a repeat of the previous forums. I AM hearing impaired and no closed captioning is extremely frustrating. It seems to be hit and miss with ATT DIRECT TV and lately it is not at all. Believe me, I have tried  the accessibility and the cc cure listed - over and over, again. I keep hoping it will accidently come back on! Whaaat am I thinking? Next solution is no ATT.

To get started, please create a new question post with more details so we can take a closer look at what's going on with the closed captioning.
