Typically on demand is free. Sometimes when a certain show only has a few episodes available on demand, there will be a $ symbol showing that you can purchase other episodes and will show the price as well. So as long as you see “watch now” and there is no additional fee popping up you should be fine. I use this feature all the time and have never paid for it.

If you browse CBS on demand you will probably see what I mean where they have some shows available to watch now for free but then will allow you to buy any other episode not available for free. So watch out for that. I believe I’ve only seen this with CBS but other channels may do it too with their on demand content,

i hope this helps you and doesn’t confuse you. 😊

On Demand is what DirecTV calls everything you get by having your HDDVR connected to the internet. There is no charge for On Demand itself.

You get the On Demand channel for the channels in your package. So SyFy 244 gets SyFy On Demand 1244.

Channel 1100 is On Demand PPV, just like the normal PPV channels in the 100s. These will show a $ in the description and of course prompt you to pay when you go to watch it (not when you download/record).

There are a few On Demand only channels, such as The Anime Network 1889, which are included free.

The On Demand library for a channel includes whatever shows and movies they choose to have in their library. This might be the last 5 episodes of the current season or such allowing people to catch up. However more channels are including full prior seasons of hit shows and listing them as PPVs. These channels are trying to capitalize on those that "binge watch" their shows. As normal any of this additional content will show the $ in the description if it chargeable.

If you are subscribed to HBO, Cinemax, Starz (or Encore only), or Showtime, these channels do not have PPV options as their content is their own original series that you are already paying for by paying for the pack in the 1st place.

So does that mean the On Demand channels are not free with Direct TV as they are with spectrum?

‘When we try to watch them we get an error message saying that our unit is not connected to the internet, but of course it is or we wouldn’t be watching tv at all.

Am am I missing something?

Watching TV has nothing to do with the internet.  TV comes from the satellite. On demand uses the internet, and if your Directv system is not connected to the internet you will get this message.

What directv equipment do you have?

DirecTV does not charge for On Demand access at all. You of course only get On Demand for the channels that are in your package.

You don't need internet to watch DirecTV. This is service by satellite, not internet. Having your box connected to internet is for optional features, such as On Demand.
