ESPN app in directv no sound

The new espn app (the one you have on the tv after tuning to espn then selecting the red button) works ok after streaming a few seconds but if you pick any program that's in the 2nd and 3rd rows (meaning any program that I not on (espn, espn news, espn u, etc, then the sound does not work. I get that it's relatively a new capability but chatting with directv it's like they never heard of this but a google search will show a different story as several people are also not able to get sound to work.

I discovered the solution. While my installation (vizio tv and Bose sound) worked for xfinity and now directv I found that I needed to adjust my Vizio audio settings since the espn app on the hr 44 apparently pulls sound from a different method. I adjusted these settings on my vizio tv to get this to work for espn app

1. Settings
2. Audio settings
SRS studio sound had =Surround
SRS truvolume = on
Digital audio out = Dolby digital
Analog audio out = fixed

Hello @skybirch75,

We apologize for this inconvenience.  A restart of your receiver should take care of the issue.  Press the red reset button located inside the access card door on the front panel (or on the side of the receiver) and wait for the receiver to reboot.  This How to Quickly Resolve DIRECTV Service Issues article will give some additional troubleshooting tips.

Thanks.

Hi thanks for the comment. I power cycle 1-2 times a week already for a regular maintenance activity so this will not be a solution for this situation. I have attempted to use the espn app since it launched about 1-2 months ago and never had the sound work.

Hi, I would continue to look at audio settings

A lot depends if you have other things connected to the tv as well (I had a external audio system so it was important to keep checking to make sure that I didn't solve it for espn3 but then not have audio for the other normal broadcasting).

You will want to check your audio settings like what I have (not sure if those are the same on Sanyo)

SRS studio sound had =Surround
SRS truvolume = on
Digital audio out = Dolby digital
Analog audio out = fixed

For others who have read this and have not had success...  PLEASE READ.

I have a Samsung TV and could not get the sound from the second row.  The fix is not a setting in your TV nor is it a setting in your home theater receiver.  The fix is to adjust the sound setting on your DirecTV receiver.   From your receiver:

Choose Settings

Under settings, go to Audio

Look at the Dolby Digital setting.  If this shows that Dolby Digital is "ON", turn it "OFF".

Adjusting that setting fixed mine.

Enjoy!

I have a LG TV and the solution by wdpierce worked for me as well! Turning Dolby Digital off via the DirecTV receiver settings did the trick and now I hear audio from the ESPN app.

Thank you!

I am not technical. I am not sure how to do the things suggested. I short, for me, this is too complicated. Why should it be?  Seems that if one must be a technician, the ball is dropped on being consumer friendly. Glad all of you csn find a fix, however.  Think I’ll just read the newspaper now. BUT did want to see & hear the game.
