To play DVD's on your DVD player, you will have to connect A/V cables from your DVD player to the TV. If you are using RCA cables to connect the receiver, you can just disconnect them from the back and connect them over to the DVD player.
Make sure when you connect the TV to your DVD player, that you change your TV input to watch the DVD's and then back again when you switch back to DIRECTV.
Thanks! That's what I told hubby to do but apparently he didn't until your replies! Watching dvds now! Will just switch back when done watching. Thanks!!!

You need to connect the DVD player to the TV probably with composite cables. If the TV doesn't have them post back for other ways.

There are composite switches available if you don't want to move the cables all the time.
