You can download the DIRECTV app onto your 4k firestick,

Sorry but that is false. The DirecTV app is NOT available on any TV streaming device. DirecTV does not allow customers to get around paying for authorized TVs.

You might be referring to the DIRECTV STREAM app which is a completely separate TV provider (rebranded from AT&T TV NOW and before that DIRECTV NOW).

For further questions check with supervisor (DirecTV not outsourced).

I can definitely confirm that DirectTV Stream does NOT work on the Fire Stick. I can also definitely confirm that AT&T/DirectTV knowingly, willfully and wantonly teach their sales staff to lie to potential customers about this. I was lied to on 4 separate occasions when I asked about this specifically. I can definitely confirm that AT&T/DirectTV aggressively lie to customers who do not have access to a cable television service.

This is DirecTV (satellite), you want DIRECTV STREAM which is a different part of the forum.

I am a customer of DirectTV satellite service. We were told repeatedly the DirectTV Stream would work with the satellite service because AT&T was re-branding everything and it SHOULD work. Of course, as you all have very accurately stated, this is a lie. There is no streaming app that can be used to watch DirectTV satellite service on an Amazon Firestick

DTV streaming is a separate service and fee and does work with DTV SAT you just have to change the HDMI port from DTV SAT to the streaming device unless you have the DTV steaming app on your TV.  We have always said there is no DTV SAT app for streaming devices.

DirecTV (satellite) has its own DirecTV app. Though limited as not for use on a TV itself. You don't get a free additional TV on the service.

DIRECTV STREAM is a streaming-only provider (think like Netflix, Hulu, etc.). It has nothing to do with DirecTV other than sharing the same parent owner. Unfortunately it has caused confusion with the name choice as originally it was DIRECTV NOW and then AT&T TV NOW, before being rebranded again (because of the new co-owner) to DIRECTV STREAM.

To watch DirecTV (the satellite service) on a TV you need a receiver/client and pay for the service. The DirecTV app is only for use on a mobile device (smart phone or tablet).

Juniper is absolutely correct in what he says about the app that is available on the Firestick...it is for streaming only. That said, I have a Samsung remote very similar to the fire stick lite remote that I use to control my Samsung Smart tv which shows all the streaming apps that it also controls, in addition to an app called "Spectrum". When Spectrum is selected, Directv satellite is loaded on the television. Is the Spectrum app unique to that tv and why does it work like any other app available on my smart tv? This is very confusing, even considering the reasoning for its disallowance described by Juniper...in that, when an app is selected originally, one must log in and establish that you are the user with a password. That begs the question of why Directv couldn't control the usage of an app that was used for satellite Directv.

DirecTV was always about streaming options being secondary perks. Advance management options like you suggest were not in the design. Keeping streaming as a supplement to the service, not improving it to a point where it might compete with itself, seems to be the direction they stuck with.

For streaming being the priority, they have the other provider DIRECTV STREAM for that.

Do you have any knowledge of the Spectrum app and why it was chosen to represent Directv satellite content? That was the first app that I looked for on Firestick...to no avail.

it never has represented directv satellite content. Sounds like someone has relabelled an old Directv RVU app as "spectrum" for some reason. What happens if you select it?

Like all other apps, Spectrum opens right into Directv satellite content. I don't know if it is because of my area (Las Vegas) or because of my tv (Samsung Smart tv) that Spectrum was chosen to be the app to select for Directv?

No, it just means your directv box is connected to an HDMI input that has been labelled spectrum by someone. it's not a directv app.  And it's not a spectrum app either. .

I have 3 hdmi inputs on the tv. When I plug the fire stick into hdmi 3, the source is listed as hdmi 3. So if I plugged Directv into hdmi 3 port, what do you think the source would then be? My guess is that it would still be Spectrum. If that was the case, Spectrum would be the chosen app for Directv on that Samsung tv, regardless of hdmi input choice. I’m wondering where the name Spectrum came from…Directv or Samsung?
