How do I watch local channels on the DIRECTV app?

Local Channel and app.jpg

If you’re NOT able to see your local channels on the DIRECTV App we have a solution for you!  All you need to do is Register your device to your Genie (HR44+).

Remember, the 1st device registered must be done at home.  2nd and subsequent devices can be done from out of your home.

Steps to register your iOS and Android device

  1. Go to iTunes App Store or Google Play.
  2. Download DIRECTV App.
  3. Sign into the app with DIRECTV.com username and password.
  4. Follow instructions based on device type:
    • Tablet:
      1. Select Playlist
      2. Select My Downloads
    • Phone:
      1. Tap the 3 lines at the top left (hamburger menu)
      2. Select Playlist
      3. Select My Downloads
  5. Select Register your iPhone/iPad/Phone/Tablet.
  6. Edit the Device name as desired.
  7. Select Add Device.
  8. If registration was not successful, try the below steps
    •  Does the DIRECTV App On Screen Display give an option to "Enter Serial Number or ID"?
      1. On the Genie, scroll up to get the Network/IP Address
      2. On the DIRECTV App OSD, select Enter Serial Number or ID.
      3. On the DIRECTV App, enter the IP Address.
      4. Did the DIRECTV App successfully register?  If not, chat with us here.

Hello,

We recently upgraded our DVR to the latest DirecTV Genie in mid-December 2016 and in order to be able to download content from the DVR. (DirecTV told us that the Genie Go was no longer supported).

For a week in late December the new DirecTV Genie was working and I was able to "download" content to my iphone.

- Over the past few weeks however, the only option I've been able to see is to "stream" the content.  The "download" arrows now appear briefly for each of my shows and then disappear.

- Also, when I am away from home and try to access my DVRs, they don't' pull up the latest content.

Suggestions as to how to troubleshoot?  Or is everyone experiencing the same thing and there are just problems with the app?

thank you,

Matt

I am having the exact same problem. Were you able to find a solution? If so, could you please advise and/or direct me to the appropriate thread?

Thank you so much!

Hi Susan,

Yes - I was instructed by DirecTV to delete the app and redownload.  When I did that all seemed to work for me!

I have an ipad pro 12" and the directv app used to work great. But in the last 6 few months it does not want to show recent shows added to my DVR. My device is added, I have uninstalled/re-installed the app, cleared the credentials on start up, made sure I have the newest software and updates for both. I am a technical savy person. Oddly, it really doesn't want to show the only shows I am interested in watching (cnn, NBC news, and Sportscenter).  Thanks for any help

I am using the DirectTV App on my iPhone 8 but cannot see the local channels in San Antonio TX. I am particularly interested in channels 4, 5, 12, 41, and 60. The only channels I can see are 200 and above

I have tried this solution multiple times on both my iPad and iPhone to no avail.  This app used to work perfectly, and now it is useless if you want to control anything on local channels.  I get Oklahoma City channels, while I live in Jacksonville, FL.  Please fix it.

Why does the app require our current location? I don't want to watch channels that are local to where I am. I want to watch the local channels I have at home.

Not that I can watch anything at all anyway because of the errors telling me something else is streaming even though no one is at the house and my tablet does not have internet access.

@struff, it's all about the contracts that DirecTV/AT&T have with the various local station owners.  Some don't allow their channels to be streamed. And you're still limited to receive only your home local stations, not those from other cities.
