How do I watch local channels on the DIRECTV app?

If you’re NOT able to see your local channels on the DIRECTV App we have a solution for you!  All you need to do is Register your device to your Genie (HR44+).

 

Remember, the 1st device registered must be done at home.  2nd and subsequent devices can be done from out of your home.

 

Steps to register your iOS and Android device

  1. Go to iTunes App Store or Google Play.
  2. Download DIRECTV App.
  3. Sign into the app with DIRECTV.com username and password.
  4. Follow instructions based on device type:
    • Tablet:
      1. Select Playlist
      2. Select My Downloads
    • Phone:
      1. Tap the 3 lines at the top left (hamburger menu)
      2. Select Playlist
      3. Select My Downloads
  5. Select Register your iPhone/iPad/Phone/Tablet.
  6. Edit the Device name as desired.
  7. Select Add Device.
  8. If registration was not successful, try the below steps
    •  Does the DIRECTV App On Screen Display give an option to "Enter Serial Number or ID"?
      1. On the Genie, scroll up to get the Network/IP Address
      2. On the DIRECTV App OSD, select Enter Serial Number or ID.
      3. On the DIRECTV App, enter the IP Address.
      4. Did the DIRECTV App successfully register?  If not, chat with us here.

That's exactly my point - I WANT to watch my home local stations via my DVR at home, not the stations in the market where I currently am hundreds of miles away. But when I enable Location access, it only shows me a channel where I am instead of the channels my DVR at home receives. So I can't even see my home guide to program recordings on my DVR

 My phone is registered and will list local channels. I am having two problems.

 

When connected to home WiFi

1. When I try to stream a local channels by clicking play on channel listing, the app plays CNN. If I go into the description of the show it says "this show is not available to watch right now"

 

2. If I am not connected to my home network, I get a message saying "can't connect to DVR"

 

I would really like to use this service, but I cannot get it set up right and I am pretty tech savvy...

I can't get past step 3, signing into the app. Since October of last year, I have not been able to use the Directv app for iOS, from day one I have received the error message of: "System Error looks like there's a problem connecting to the server."

I have called NUMEROUS times since changing to your service spending countless hours on the phone and no one has been able to resolve the issue! I see others on your forum have the exact same issue.

Only to add insult, my father in law just had the service installed in his house and I'm able to use the app when using his credentials but not my own.

I need to have this issue resolved 
yesterday! And I'm tired of fooling around with you people!

You need to stop sending me a bill until you can figure out how to resolve this.

I love DTVNOW app buuuuuuuuut I want my local channels which is 2(cbs) 4(NBC) 5(fox) and definitely 11(pix11) I need to watch my news while driving before starting work. I’m from NY. Thank you.

Why does app not let me watch my local channels it worked perfectly fine when I first installed now all it says is not available or blacked out because of content.... Please help.

Lose local channels every time there is a hiccup with Internet or direct
now is updated or worked on.

This is still an issue for me.  Unable to watch CMA show on computer via website.  It is grayed out for some reason when i click on program in guide.

It’s not about the contracts for me, I was getting local channels until Oct 1, 2018, I have tried all troubleshooting methods and devices are registered etc. I have been on 4/5 tech calls and 2 home visits, one from directv and one from ATT and no one seems to know the fix, they say it’s a know issue and have no idea when it will be corrected. I wonder why they don’t give me a new DVR to try.

We can’t register devices with iOS on newer devices. Directv is slow on updating to accommodate higher iOS than 10. New iPhone XR has 12. I heard from tech tonight that a new update for directv will happen on Dec 30. He doesn’t know for sure if this will help. I haven’t had local channels since beginning of Oct and after 12 tech calls and two home visits no one can explain or fix problem. Directv seems to have quite a few techs without the skill set to even tell us this

There are poroblems with the XR on DirecTV and also on TiVo non-DirecTV apps.  Maybe on some of thecable apps also. I don't believe the forecast update will affect thgis because as far as I know it's only for the Genie not the IOS app.
