How do I watch local channels on the DIRECTV app?

Local Channel and app.jpg

If you’re NOT able to see your local channels on the DIRECTV App we have a solution for you!  All you need to do is Register your device to your Genie (HR44+).

Remember, the 1st device registered must be done at home.  2nd and subsequent devices can be done from out of your home.

Steps to register your iOS and Android device

  1. Go to iTunes App Store or Google Play.
  2. Download DIRECTV App.
  3. Sign into the app with DIRECTV.com username and password.
  4. Follow instructions based on device type:
    • Tablet:
      1. Select Playlist
      2. Select My Downloads
    • Phone:
      1. Tap the 3 lines at the top left (hamburger menu)
      2. Select Playlist
      3. Select My Downloads
  5. Select Register your iPhone/iPad/Phone/Tablet.
  6. Edit the Device name as desired.
  7. Select Add Device.
  8. If registration was not successful, try the below steps
    •  Does the DIRECTV App On Screen Display give an option to "Enter Serial Number or ID"?
      1. On the Genie, scroll up to get the Network/IP Address
      2. On the DIRECTV App OSD, select Enter Serial Number or ID.
      3. On the DIRECTV App, enter the IP Address.
      4. Did the DIRECTV App successfully register?  If not, chat with us here.

Wasn't able to accomplish this. Where is the help that will enable me to get my local news when I'm only 90 miles away from home and able to see the channels using rabbit ears on a tv But I can't stream them when I log into DirecTV.

This DOES NOT work and hasn’t for years. It is the same thing they read to you when you call in for support. Worthless app.

Still does not work. Had local channels one day and don’t another. The directv is on the same network as phone and tablet. I am not sure why, if I subscribe, it is this difficult. Check my account, use the location on my device to determine available channels. This should have zero to do with my DVR.

What’s really interesting is that some channels work perfectly others say there’s a problem with my network and ALL of my locals give me the ”reciever is in use” error. Very disappointing considering your competetion is WAAAY ahead in this area.

My IPad Device is registered but under the setting in the Direct TV App under DVR Access, I am not able to update Live Streaming.  The message says not connected to the Receiver but is in gray and cannot be changed.  What can I do to stream live TV, particularly my local channels?
