Issues with reception, online viewing, customer support portal....

Does anyone else have issues with the following?

  • Reception to some channels when the weather is absolutely perfect outside?
    • ESPN2, ESPNNews, CNN, etc?
    • Had them out to adjust the dish multiple times and it works great for a few months until it doesn't. I'm guessing its like an oil change and needs to be done regularly.  I like extra tasks.
  • Viewing any channel online pops up the viewing screen from the guide (after a lengthy wait) and then stays black with no streaming?  And no, there is no pop up blocker on, my rig isn't 10 years old and running Windows 95 or my ISP isn't dial up.
    • I don't recall this ever working in the multiple years I've been with DirectTV- Disappointing since multiple channels don't work on the TV.  See point 1.
  •  When using the support portal you get the "Checking your services to provide you with personalized support" pop up that just spins until you die of old age?
  • When you try to reset your receiver online, as recommended, that doesn't work?

Hard to see why the masses are all moving to online media services.  This has been an integrated, seamless and effective way to view affordable content both at home and online.

Hi @RPM1974

Are they local channels, national, or both?

Hi @RPM1974,

are you getting any error messages for the channels that have no reception? Is it always the same channels that are affected? We look forward to your reply.

Yea, it's the same channels most of the time. The error is 771- Signal
Loss. Other channels have heavy pixilation but don't quite get to the
signal loss error since they flicker in every so often.

They all appear to be nationally broadcast.

99% of these problems are caused by dish misalignment. Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners.

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

Satellite transponders (32 total at 101º)
[Most of your standard definition channels are beamed from 101ºW]
1-8 x x x x x x x x
9-16 x x x x x x x x
17-24 x x x x x x x x
25-32 x x x x x x x x

Satellite transponders (11 total at 119º)
[Not present with Slimline 3 dish. Local SD channels for some cities, Spanish package]
17-24 NA NA NA NA NA x x x
25-32 x x x x x x x x

Satellite transponders (11 total at 99º(ca))
[National HD channels]

Satellite transponders (14 total at 99º(cb))
[National HD channels]

Satellite transponders (16 total at 103º(ca))

That menu pathway is not available on my menu.  When selecting menu the only relevant item might be settings .  I did find the sat settings. 15361813345111108055344.jpg

Yep, those are the signal reading screens.  How about the other satellites?

The signal strength on the other options are lower or NA.

Then that proves that your dish is not optimally aligned.  The majority of 99 and 103º satellite transponders should also be up in the high 80-90s.  Call DirecTV and request a service visit .... 1 800 531 5000.  Or, if you can easily reach your dish, check out YouTube videos that show how to tweak the alignment.
