Latest iOS update removed options?????

To say the latest update is disappointing is a huge understatement! With the original iOS app I had access to an on-screen remote where I could perform the same program watching options as if sitting right in front of TV with regular remote control. Fast forward - Skip - Rewind, etc.  So far - I can't find the on-screen remote anywhere in the new app! Am I missing it?

Also (since the on-screen remote is gone) when  watching programming from DVR on iOS devices: (1) Can't fast forward; (2) Can't skip; (3) If I leave and come back I have to start over from the start!  This is a horrible step BACKWARDS to me!

I'd sure appreciate confirming or helping comments here. If I'm missing these capabilities somehow - please suggest how I might get them back. If they are in fact gone, and the iOS options are in fact reduced/disabled, can we "motivate" ATT/DirecTV to bring them back?

Hi, @theilliniguy.

If you're using the DIRECTV application, have you made sure that there is not an update available to make the app more compatible with the latest iOS version on your device? We also recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the application to see if that helps. Keep in mind you will lose the downloaded programs from the application.

We haven't removed the feature, and if it isn't available after updating your operating software, it is likely due to the new OS conflicting with the version of the application we have available. If the app update isn't available now, keep an eye out for it soon.

We hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply and helping solve this issue.

(1) Both devices I own are up to date iOS as well as DirecTV app.

(2) When watching content on either, from DVR there is no place to locate the on-screen remote that had always been there. So, if your telling me it is - please tell me steps to find it.

(3) I'm also noticing that watching LIVE TV resolution is clear and crisp. However, watching any DVR programming appears pixelated and more like standard definition. This was NOT the case before the big update to the app.

Suffice to say I'm still looking for answers.

Hi @theilliniguy

Being that the feature is still available, you would access it the same way you did before. However, as John stated, since you're no longer seeing it, it's likely that the current version of iOS is conflicting with the current version of the DTV app. Be sure to keep an eye out for the next update.

Whose update? I hope you're referring to the DirecTV app - in which case it would likely never happen!

iOS didn't break this. Re-read my posts. Several things have changed - several weeks and ikOS updates ago.

(1) On screen remote icon on DirecTV app home screen GONE.

(2) Can't fast forward which watching DVR video.

(3) Can't skip anything - no option anywhere.

(4) If I exit video and come back I have to start over from the beginning!

(5) Watching Live TV or DVR video most are like standard def not HD. I'm using on the same devices and same network that has worked flawlessly until a few months ago when the DirecTV app underwent its big change.

I will (as you guys suggest) keep updating everything as often as offered but PLEASE - don't just blow this off with a shallow excuse. Open a tech support ticket. Get involved. Help me/us solve this!

@theilliniguy,

Please follow these steps to use your DirecTV app as a remote to control your receiver (Note: The device and receiver must both be on the same network):

  1. Tap the Main Menu icon to display a panel on the left. See Main Menu Screenshot.
  2. Select Browse for TV in the Intent Picker (Top).
  3. Select the Remote Control icon at the bottom of the app's screen.

To resume watching a recording:

  1. From the Home Page, go to Recently Watched On Demand to resume watching downloaded OnDemand content from where you left off on another mobile device, receiver (Genie, clients) or computer (DIRECTV.com)
  2. Select View All.
  3. Tap the poster for the desired title.
  4. On the Program Info/Detail screen, tap Watch.

We apologize if this has caused any confusion! Please let us know if you run into any further issues!

OK - maybe I'm not explaining clearly. By the way - thanks for still trying to help!

The remote you describe is only functional to operate the DirecTV receiver while sitting in front of it and your TV - just like a replacement for the DirecTV provided remote.  The process I had been using for years (as described in original posts) was using the remote to watch Live and/or DVR content - in another room of my house, over home network WiFI on an iOS device.  I CANT find any remote that performs those operations!

So - I re-ask. Where/how/what happened to disable/disarm/remove the remote - or the functionality of watching Live/DVR content on an iOS device and control it with the on screen remote!? If you can get the remote described in the post above to do that - please provide your instructions!

Hey, @theilliniguy.

It seems we have some sort of miscommunication happening here. So that we can better assist with your application questions, we'll be sending you a private message that you can view and respond to in the Forum's Inbox.
