MeTV

I live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. Until today, I was able to enjoy MeTV using channel 55 with my DirecTV service. I had seen the notation on screen that it was about to move, but did not make note of the new channel number. Where do I tune in for MeTV now?

Dish Network has a National feed as does Frndly.

@JAL123 Is that “has” or “had”. The last post by @nabukl would indicate that national channel on Dish has been dropped. In any event, Directv could negotiate a national feed but that doesn’t make any previous post wrong. They could even have it so anyone getting METV as a local would not have access to the national feed but the way it is now does require a separate satellite channel for each local station. The key word is “could”. METV’s business model seems to be marketing their programming to individual stations. A national feed might cost much more than Directv is willing to spend.

DirecTV is not in the market for sub-channls. METV is carried on local affiliates. Their "national" deal with Dish seemed to end earlier this year so are keeping just to the local model.

Between both business capability and decisions, it will not be available for you through satellite TV. If you cannot live without it, get an antenna or find another provider that carries the local sub-channel for you.

The channel itself didn't drop. The channel owner moved the content to a sub-channel. When this happens, it is a matter of the channel changing its programming. It is up to the channel owner to notify of such a change (such as their own screen banner), though not obligated to do so. The TV provider just broadcasts the channel as they receive it.

DirecTV didn't get rid of METV, the channel owner moved the programming content to a sub-channel. So not DirecTV's warning to give.

Read the TOS DTV can change their channels and programing at anytime with or without notice.

At this point, if you have sufficient internet bandwidth, add Frndly TV.  The picture quality for MeTV is excellent.   It looks like HD Quality, even though the tv shows were log before HD.   Much better than what you could get with an antenna.

This is very frustrating for directv customers who have come to enjoy MeTv on channel 55.   The odd thing is that MeTV has been replaced with SPETRUM news !!!   Isn’t that a direct competitor to Directv in the DFW market?

All directv should do is show 55.2 rather than Spectrum 55.  Seems like an easy fix but I am sure there is backend paperwork that needs to be handled.

what is worse is that DirecTv should have known in advance about this and already have a solution in place.

Yes you can subscribe and stream MeTV on the Frndly app.   But then you are paying for something that previously was included on your existing Directv account.

Not an optimum solution.  :-(

Hi @Hamiltonpl57, we're here to clarify everything regarding MeTV channel.

The affiliation from this channel was changed to Spectrum news 1. The guide may not match until the changeover has been completed. In case you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

We'll be always here to help!

What is your point?  The guide was changed several days ago to reflect Spectrum News 1.  No one in this thread wants Spectrum News.  We understand that local channel 55 moved their programming around.

We want Directv to switch to channel 55.2 in order to bring Metv back to us.

We understand your point on this @Hamiltonpl57.

Please keep in mind that the local channel performed these changes, and DIRECTV is only in charge of the broadcast. We appreciate your feedback, and we'll keep it along. DIRECTV is always working to provide the best service to its customers.

So I was told on Saturday that DirecTV was working on the issue and thus implied that they recognized this AS A PROBLEM.

Are you saying now that DirecTV is not working on the problem and that really there is no problem?  You just broadcast what you're given?

Please clarify. This is not consistent with earlier posts and phone conversations with DirecTV support.  Thanks in advance.

@Hamiltonpl57

The channel owner made the change, not DirecTV. All DirecTV can do is deliver the channel as delivered.

DirecTV doesn't have agreements for sub-channels. They don't have the room for the hundreds of them across the country. The solution is use a regular antenna to pick up what is in range. DirecTV is not obligated to provide you METV content, only the channel they have an agreement for.

We get where you're coming from @Hamiltonpl57. Let us clarify this situation for you.

Since this is related to the local channel itself, this is a matter DIRECTV doesn't control. We understand there was an issue confirmed and reported and regarding this, we haven't got any update. Still, you can be sure that we're committed to provide you with the best watching experience, and we'll keep working to make sure our customers enjoy our service as its fullest.

So Juniper - I am not an (Edited per community guidelines).  I totally understand that  DTV broadcasts what they get.  They don't control what the source is or what the local station CHANNEL 55 does.

Totally get that.  I (we) are just asking if DTV is going to change the Channel to broadcast subchannel 55.2 so that METV is still being delivered to DFW Directv customers as it has been for the last two years or so.    I understand they cannot broadcast everything but you would think they would choose to switch to 55.2 and give us MeTV rather than Spectrum News 1.  Makes no sense. Spectrum is a competitor.

They dropped OAN. They have the bandwidth. They show plenty of shopping channels that virtually no one watches so I suspect they have a slot for METV.   It may be a contractual issue that is binding them.  I don't know.  It's just a shame.

I was told on Saturday that YES they were working on it.  Although I wasn't convinced. Then earlier in ths thread DirecTVHelp said the SAME thing.

Now, as I understand it, we are being told that they don't control it and yes they understand what we want but that really there is no present or future solution to this issue at this time.

This informs my decision to move to another provider asap.  Plenty more in DFW area that will provide MeTV.

DirecTV should be consistent in their communication on this.
