Program Guide isn't responding -

Message in middle of screen: Program Guide isn't responding, X  close app, (clock symbol) Wait
This mess. appeared 12 hrs. ago and is still there this morning. Cannot change channel nor get mess. box in middle of screen to go away. I have a smart tv but do not have it connected to computer. Replaced batteries in remote but still no response. I am not a tech savy person - help please

This doesn't sound like a message from your DirecTV box.  What model DVR/Receiver do you have?  Have you tried resetting it using the red button near the access card?
