Redirect TV Display to Computer.

No, this isn't about sitting at the computer and using the app.

My home office is set up so that my computer is in front of me and the TV is off to one side. I have a comfortable view of both my computer screen and the TV.

I have guests coming and set up a bed in my office. The issue is that the view of the TV screen is obscured when looking at it from the bed. However, the computer screen is in full view.

With the TV on, I can "see" the genie mini box under Network on the Windows 10 computer. I was wondering if somehow I could use that to show, on my computer screen, what is currently displayed on the TV. Doing it the other way around, casting the computer display to the TV screen, is easy. I want to go in the other direction.

I am fairly certain that this is only possible with either a physical connection to the genie mini or by hacking into the device shown on my Windows 10 network, but I thought I would ask.

No, that won’t work.

However, you CAN buy an HDMI capture card for your computer on Amazon. They run for around $15 and allow any HDMI device to connect to your computer. Using a tool like OBS Studio allows you to see the Genie Mini screen as well as audio.

Here’s a link to an inexpensive capture card:

Yeah, I kind of figured that it would take a hack into  the box or as you suggested a physical connection to the box or TV.

Thanks for the response.

Hi @DanFlak, thank you for the details.

In this case, in order to display the programming it would be necessary to connect your genie mini with an HDMI cable to your computer port. Please give it a try and let us know how it goes. We're here to help!

Also, thank you to @detuch254  for your prompt and accurate response.

DirecTV boxes must physically connect to whatever screen you are using. Just how the service is designed as they are intended for TV's themselves.

Most computers only have an HDMI output port not an input port.  What you are seeing on the computer is the network address the the mini is using to connect to the internet there is no programing on it.
