Ability to replay if receiver is left on

We just changed from Directv to Uverse.

On Directv, we had to leave the Genie receiver on all the time in order to replay whatever channel it was on when you turned off the TV.  Then, when you turned the TV on, as long as you didn't change channels, you would be able to replay back to the beginning of the buffer.

For instance, at night, when we're finished watching TV, we turn it to the local news channel. Then, in the morning, with the Genie being left on we could rewind it if we got up a little later.

The HR20 DVR could be turned off and still have the same functionality, but the Genie needed to remain on.

So, would we get the same functionality on Uverse by leaving the receiver (ISB7500) on?  And if so, does it hurt to leave it on all the time?

Or is there a totally solution?

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Each box has its own buffer, independent of each other. You can also set to record a show, but the DVR "hard drive" is shared amongst all boxes.

It seems as if both technologies are very similar.

I'm not sure what you want to do, but here are a few options.

1) Set to whatever channel and turn off via TV remote. You'd use the TV remote to turn back on. The downside is that if you use the U-Verse remote to turn the TV on, the TV will turn on and the U-Verse box will turn off, causing you to lose your buffer.

2) Set that morning show to record. Turn it off via the U-Verse remote. When you wake up, power on and hit "recorded TV" or whatever the button is on the U-Verse remote or go to channel 9999 and your show will be right there.

3) Set another box to be on that channel. Turn off your TV and U-Verse box via U-Verse remote. In the morning, go to that TV and turn on via U-Verse remote.

The downsides to leaving a TV and/or box on overnight:

1) Higher electric bill.

2) You'll only have the last hour of whatever channel. The buffer only has enough memory for an hour.

If you want to watch a whole show, I'd heavily suggest setting a recording and turning it all off.

There's only a one hour buffer if you leave a box on regardless if the TV is on or not.

If your goal is to watch something that was on longer ago than that, (ie: watch 10 o'clock news in the morning) you'll need to record it

Thank you for your help.  I think the solution to record it will be what we need to do.
