An emergency notification with no emergency?

I'm getting a message that says the President has requested that we watch our local station.  It's force tuned to NBC and we can't change it.  I don't see any emergencies, just the Today show.  How do I shut this off?  thanks.

Happening in Tennessee...  Scary about the control or lack of control in our homes.  What if there was a real emergency?  It's like the little boy crying wolf all the time.

It's Obama care all over again! Another government program that doesn't work. That is the real emergency.

teclaw -- I very briefly saw your post from the morning of 10/24 (on another thread, it turns out: http://forums.att.com/t5/Total-Home-DVR/emergency-alert-system-weekly-test/td-p/3363431). It seems to be gone now, which is very strange.  Anyway, I have a screenshot of it that I took in case I lost the page.

My wife was at home (I'm at work) seeing exactly the same error message you were seeing.  "This is an Emergency Action Notification. Your channel has been force tuned to receive the Emergency Alert Message."  We just had Uverse TV added to our Uverse internet about three weeks ago (or maybe just two, but I'll have to verify). I have asked my brother, another uverse user in the town right next door, if he is seeing the same thing.

Because of this and other things we have had going wrong with Uverse TV, we are hoping there is still a chance to cancel it.

Update: I'm hoping this is just a coincidence in timing and that these kinds of problems are rare on uverse TV.

You people are lucky you can call someone.  When I call it say the average wait right now is over an hour and says do you want to wait, I say yes, and then it hangs up.  So their phone system apparently can't handle the entire United States calling in at once.  Look Sheeple, just be happy you have TV and watch your NBC MSM tv and don't complain.  Whatever the tv tells you to believe you should believe.

FWIW I'm in middle Tennesee, and having the same issue: Emergency Alert Notification banner, annoying buzzer noise, losing control of my cable-box, channel switcing to my local NBC affiliate.

After I turn the box on/off the vicious circle repeats.

With the ebola news last night I thought this might be legit.

The worst thing about this issue is seeing Al Roker more than I care to!

Just to help spread the knowledge, this is happening in northwest Arkansas, too.  My wife contacted me here at work to tell me what's happening.  Seriously considering canceling uverse TV if we still can. We just recently added it to our uverse internet.

This is what we call a "1st World Country" problem. Which is to say, a very minor inconvenience at worst, compared to what other people are having to deal with in this world. Heaven forbid we go without television for a couple hours. I assure you President Obama didn't decide this morning to tick off a bunch of ATT customers and send a false alarm signal to our receivers. The EAS system itself is a fantastic idea. I personally want to know that if I'm mindlessly watching Tennis Channel one day, it'll be interrupted in the event of an actual emergency. It only took about two seconds to figure out that this wasn't the case today. Flip on TV, goes to Today Show, nothing happening, must be a glitch, oh well, move on.

I'm frustrated too, but all in all it's totally ok right now. Other things also exist besides this situation, there's a world outside of the TV. I'm going to enjoy it for a while.

It looks like it is fixed in GA. I can't believe the stupidity of some people wanting to blame in on the President! Grow up and be informed! This is not a political thing!
