Another reason to include subchannels
On April 29, the San Francisco/San Jose area's NBC station aired a local baseball game until 10 PM, pre-empting two NBC shows. Rather than moving the shows to, say, 2 AM, or airing them on an independent station, the station decided to air the shows on one of its digital subchannels. Needless to say, U-Verse owners were out of luck, which was especially bad as they were parts 1 and 2 of a 3-part show, with the 10 PM show that the station did broadcast normally being part 3.
This could be something that the station does on a regular basis, and the other network stations can pick up on this as well. Has anybody at AT&T considered this?

It would be nice if Uverse did that, and maybe they will in the future. Right now, I have Comcast and will soon change over to Uverse and Comcast does show the Detroit area sub-channels. And on the CBS affiliate in Detroit, they just added one of those channels that show old tv shows, called Decades. I think eventually Uverse will if they think it will be popular enough.

Good news: You can probably get subchannels via an antenna.
Bad news: "Probably" and you have to do the work to install the antenna and flip the input (which you're probably doing anyway to watch a DVD or Netflix.)
So...at least there's an option. But I do agree though..even though I couldn't tell you what subchannels I get in my area, other than MyTV which constantly advertises on the main channel, I do recognize that some people need them.

Subchannels are only as good as who is programming them or what the programing is. Some are worthless, some a bit better then that but some are awash in unique stuff (i.e. sports). We'll see how this goes, especially since the FCC wants to shrink the OTA spectrum which might force major networks in some cities to a .2.

Seriously doubt it, ATT Uverse has only added subchannels in the case of ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox being on a subchanel of one of the others.
Especially adding SD chanels is not a big priority in any case. ATT Uverse has added some of those subchannels on a national feed or part of another channels programming. Here in metro Detroit, they carry Me TV on 136 and Cozi on FETV on 578 for 14 hrs/day.
That's the route ATT is taking for these subchannels of old programming. 😉

Not where I live - I'm about 50 miles away from both San Francisco and Sacramento, and the area is pretty much surrounded by hills, so none of the broadcast channels (or their subchannels) get through.
