Blue Screen and standby issues
So, if I am understanding uverse tv correctly, after 8 hours the STB power light goes off and a blue screen comes up. You then need to press ok to watch tv again. From previous posts in 2014, I see this has not been fixed. Is there a way to turn this feature off in 2015? the reason I ask - I care for a 90 year old who repeatedly screws up the remote, and he constantly calls me and says the blue screen is on. then he screws up hitting the ok button and I have to go over and fix it. Surely there is a way to turn off this 8 hour power saving feature and save my sanity!!!! Help!

Nope, it's mandated in Energy Star regs that ATT wants to keep. 😉

It does seem reasonable that there should be an option to turn it off.
There is a phrase missing from the description - "After 8 hours" is "After 8 hours of inactivity".
Can you generate any activity within the eight hours? Perhaps point out a show or two to get the channel changed.
This is a simple remote that many in your postion have found to be of help - https://www.flipperremote.com/
It prevents getting in a bad place by not having all those buttons. It may encourage channel surfing - generating activity.

A slingbox, while perhaps expensive, would be another way to do a "remote fix" of the situation without having to go to the address.

It would be good to also explain how to use it.
A slingbox is designed to watch a distant TV on a computer anywhere, as long as it has web access. It is a box that connects to the u-verse modem for access to the internet and the u-verse STB to capture the content and has an IR blaster to control the uverse STB.
Since you can control the STB from your computer you can see what the STB is "tuned" to and "click" on whatever button is needed to bring back content. Such as the OK button.
Saves drive time.

Of course, another service is always an option. U-verse is not for everyone.
The flipper remote was offered as a solution that works with u-verse. I believe it does based on reviews & no one has ever come back to say it does not.

Yes, that is true. I already forgot the idea was to encourage activity & prevent the auto turn off.
