Certain shows never record
I'm asking for my elderly step father, I never hear the end of his fishing shows not taping. I have watched with my own eyes that they are set to record, then the red dot disappears. With both series record and just doing it manually. Just those shows which leaves me scratching my head. Let me look up the channel.
1744 fswi (fox sports wisconsin)
The series is set, but if we go in and manually hit 'record' the red dot goes away. We've had tech over, a new dvr box, of course rebooted and whatever it is with the 3 dots, unplug etc

Is the series set to include repeats, or is it just "first run only"?
Also, does he have any episodes saved on the DVR? It could be that the system thinks that it is the same episode airing over and over again, and it will not record it since it thinks you already have it.
The only other thing I can think of is, he's recording something else at the same time, and his system just can't support that many recording simultaneously - and, somehow, the fishing show is at the bottom of the priority list. (There's another thing to check - the "Series Priority" list.)

All good points, but none are the issue(s).
We tried both ways
There are none on the list, especially after the new box.
Nothing else is recording then, one is on at like 4am.
Will recheck the priority.

Ok so I set the show to tape again as a series, made sure it was priority 1, it didn't tape and it's not on the scheduled again! It's just this channel and show. I wonder if there are copyright issues? Never heard of that but I'm stumped. It's been like this for over a yr now. I feel bad for the guy, he just wants his fishing show.

Strange. What's the name of the show? I can get 1744, so I'll see if I can record it.
I don't see why it would let you schedule a recording and then not record it. If it was a copyright problem, I doubt that U-Verse would let you schedule a recording in the first place.

john gillespie, i'm not sure if there's more to the name, but that's how I find it. So, I've watched him manually hit record as it's on, before it's on, and scheduled as a series and the red dot disappears. It's so weird! I know he watches other shows on this channel, but this is the one he talks about the most. Now that I'm thinking of it, I'm going to try a random show right now on that channel.

I assume it's John Gillespie's Waters & Woods.
Here are two suggestions:
1. Try setting up a manual recording for the show that's on right before it, then add 30 minutes to the end of the recording, and see if that works.
2. Where (what city, or ZIP code - nothing more specific than that) does you stepfather live? It could be that the show is on another station and, somehow, that station has gotten U-Verse not to allow recording of the Fox Sports Wisconsin episodes.
According to the show's website, it is also on Milwaukee's WVTV (CW Channel 18, and 1018 for HD), Sunday mornings at 9 AM, although it may be called "Wisconsin's Waters and Woods" without Gillespie's name on it. It also appears to be on NBC Sports Chicago (741 and 742) under this title, if he can get that.

yes that's it. There are a couple more but that's the main show he wants.
Good suggestions, I'll try that. He lives in Kenosha. I don't see it listed on any other channel when I search, as you said the 'waters and woods', on the logo it has his name on it, I found it Monday at 4pm, we'll try that. I set the show before John Gillespie's show on Saturday morning to tape an hour ahead like you suggested. Fingers X'd!
Last night I hit record on the basketball game that was currently on, that did tape. I set it to tape a fishing show that was on at 8am and that did not tape.

Ok so, I set it to tape the show before, then to run for an hour after, it did not record, or at least, it disappeared. Nobody was here to see if it was recording, but from what I've seen in the past, it records but disappears off the list
I set it to tape it on 1741 on Sunday and it didn't record.
He manually recorded a show, it was recording, but then it disappeared, I saw it recording. This is another phenomenon I'm not sure If I've mentioned, if a show tapes, it disappears.
It's only these fishing shows which is so weird. There are 4 of us here and we tape a lot, no other issues (except glitchy lately), the basketball game taped and stuck.

My next suggestion was, "If a show tapes, it disappears" could mean there isn't any room on the DVR, but then it wouldn't have taped that basketball game and kept it.
I will try recording it on Saturday, along with a couple of the other outdoors shows (The Musky Hunter, and Discover Wisconsin) to see if I can record them.
