Games in the four major professional sports on regional sports networks are available only to the people who live in that area.
According to the online channel list, you "should" only have access to:
Baseball - Baltimore (MASN), Washington (MASN), Atlanta (FSN South & FSN Southeast), Cincinnati (FSN Cincinnati)
Basketball - Charlotte (FSN South & FSN Southeast)
Hockey - Carolina (FSN South)
All other major league baseball, NBA, and NHL games on regional sports networks must be blacked out, in accordance with the contracts the networks have with those leagues. Why, yes, it is so you will buy their packages if you want to watch a particular team outside of your market - how about that?
You are not alone in this; this applies to everybody, nationwide, and it is not limited to U-Verse. In northern California, the two baseball teams (Giants and A's) are on different RSNs, and while both are available to everybody, one of them has the Golden State Warriors while the other has the Sacramento Kings, and nobody has access to both - you live either in "the Warriors area," where Kings games are blacked out, or "the Kings area," where Warriors games are blacked out.
Note that games on "national" networks (e.g. Fox, ESPN, TBS) are not blacked out unless (I think) it is a home game on one of your local RSNs.

It's a worthy investment. If you have 4K, there is such a model of Roku for sale, but I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have 4K. If you don't have 4K, the Streaming Stick is probably the best option.
