crappy U-verse app

The app doesn't work. I see support inputs on this site from more than a year ago. How can a large corporation like AT&T not fix an important technology like this app. And its such a basic function to log in. Its just unbelievable that this still doesn't work. Yet we have to continue to pay full price for a product that does not even have the most basic functionality. How hard is it to make an app log into a server. Wow. Just Wow.

I suppose it could be a contributing factor.  But I suspect that it has more to do with the fact that AT&T isn't marketing it at all and is pushing both potential and existing customers towards DIRECTV.

Let me see if I can clarify this more than listing a couple of channels names.  Your U-verse TV subscription conveys with it the right to watch the content of many channels on that content provider's website.  Among them would be ESPN, AMC, The Discovery Channel, etc.  You can visit one of these video providers' sites and click to watch their video content.  When in your home, you would normally be implicitly authenticated by the fact that you're on an AT&T Internet IP address at your home with U-verse IPTV.  However, when not on that network, you have to authenticate, which means selecting AT&T U-verse as your video provider and then providing your AT&T U-verse credentials to prove that you are an AT&T U-verse TV subscriber and have rights to view the content.  So, for diagnostic purposes, I was wondering if the ID/password you're using to log in on the app would work on one of these video provider sites.  Your Netflix access would not meet this criterion.

What issues are you having?  I use the app on my iPhone quite often.

I use the U-verse app on an Android phone on a fairly regular basis.  I have had issues at times, but it is generally very helpful.  I, like skeeter, would ask what are you trying to do that doesn't work, and what happens (error messages, etc.)?

"...what are you trying to do that doesn't work.."

Did you read my post? How about just logging in. I'm glad it works for you.
But there are many entries in the forum from users who can't even log in.

@wowjustwow, no need for the attitude.  You said "The app doesn't work. "  We said, the app does work for us.  Yes, I understand that some have issues.  Sometimes I have had server issues for a day or two.  If you had said "The app isn't working for me," we probably would have replied somewhat differently.

Anyway, I wonder... are you using login associated with your U-verse TV account?  Can you use that login to connect to a provider's website (just for verification)?  Do you get a message when you attempt to login?  If so, what message?

What I said was I cannot log in to the app. Then I searched on this issue
and found a years worth of forum submissions for the exact same issue. And
there is no definitive solution. Just a lot of "restart your phone", and,
it works if you "reset" your phone. Where is the tech support?

So I guess it works for some people. But so far I have far more data points
for people that it doesn't work for.

I'm attempting to log in with my AT&T account username and password. I
installed the app on my iPhone 6s and on an Asus Android tablet. I could
not log in on either device.

@wowjustwow AT&T's account system can be a morass of confusion.  That's why I asked if you would log on to some provider's site (ESPN, AMC, whatever) while on your cell phone carrier network (i.e. not at home with IP address authentication) and see if the credentials you're using work.

And, FTR, what you said was:

The app doesn't work.... And its such a basic function to log in.

You did not clearly state that you could not log on to the app.  You said, verbatim "the app doesn't work."  You expected the reader infer that you couldn't log in.  And to be honest, the way the paragraph was written, I skipped over that.  And you still haven't reported what error message you get (if any).

Yes, the thousands of users who have used the app successfully have not made a special effort to log in and state "I can log in to the U-verse App," as strange as that might seem to you.  So, your data sample is a bit skewed.

The only actual data I have is number of complaints about this very issue -
not being able to log in - on the Community site. I don't have access to
how many users are able to log in. Its possible that most U-verse
subscribers don't use this app. Maybe the buggy app is part of the reason
that AT&T is losing so many subs (more than a million in 2017).

Regarding the question of logging in to "some provider's site", I'm not
exactly sure what counts as a provider. I can log into Netflix on both Wifi
and on cellular data. I log into countless other apps many times per day
via both Wifi and cellular data.

OK I understand "provider" now. So for example if I want to access ESPN, is
the mobile website or an ESPN app that I need to attempt to log in on?

I will disable Wifi to force the use of cellular data.
