Every time I turn on my TV I have to reset the u-verse box. What can I do to prevent this?

Every time I turn on my TV I have to reset the u-verse box.  The TV just says "searching for signals."  After I reset the box and it cycles for a couple of minutes it finally turns on.  What can I do to not have to reset every time I turn on the TV?

How are you connecting to the TV?

coax, composite SD methods

component, HDMI  HD methods

Is it going thru an audio receiver?  Anything else you can add to explain things would be helpful.

It is not going through an audio receiver.  It was just set up a couple of weeks ago and I can't get my service man or his manager to respond to my email or phone calls.  It is set up to come on at HDMI.  Thanks for your help/response.

You might want to try to 1) unplug the HDMI cable from the receiver 2) press and hold the power button down for 5 seconds to re-boot the box 3) wait about 5 minutes for the box to come back up and 4) plug the HDMI cable back in.  Try this and see what kind of behavior you get after doing this.

Hello hank, if you continue to experience the same problem after performing the recommendations above there is a possibility you have a defective HDMI cable or TV receiver. I have sent you a private message to assist you further and determine the source of trouble.

We were just installed Wednesday 1/8/14 and are having the exact same issue.  We have tried all the troubleshooters and settings on our tv.  Is there a resolution for this?  HDMI cable as well.

Two things you can try with HDMI is - Try all HDMI inputs on theTV and try turning on the TV first (instead of the STB,
Programmed by att/ok (simultaneously) - 977 - tv - att- enter (bottom right.

The sure fire solution is to remove the HDMI cable and use component cables,

I am also new to uverse and was also having this problem and the solution I found was holding the power button down a little longer, I know it really sounds simple but after about a week of rebooting every day I just held the power button down about 5 seconds more and have not had a problem since

tsbrady - Thanks for posting that unique and interesting solution.

I have said many times - when troubleshooting you have to check/try everything so that you do not miss an opportunity for a solution.

Thanks so much for your reply, we tested another tv and everything worked correctly, so we are gonna go get the component cable.

Hi,

I have had this issue since I switched to Uverse back in Dec. 2013. I have switched out my receiver and bought a "better" HDMI cord, which was the highest quality cord Radio Shack sold. I have tried plugging it into to different HDMI outlets, unplugging & plugging other cords, rebooting/resetting and so on to no avail. It is now March and I'm still having to reset my box every single time I turn my TV on. It is especially frustrating when you accidentally hit the power button on the remote during an intense part of a show! There has to be a resolution to this inconvenience. Please help!

jmc0159 - It sounds like you have tried a lot of things. What is the symptom? When you turn on the STB/TV it comes on black? Then you pull the plug on the STB & it comes on OK when you re-power?

It does not make sense that switching to component cables dod not do the trick.

Since you are turning on the TV first, when it actually works, try doing that from the start. Reprogram your remote as follows - att/ok (simultaneously) - 977 - TV-att -enter (bottom right).

When you hit the power button, it will power the TV first. If that does no work - att/ok -977-enter. This will power TV & STB separately.

Press TV - power - att-power You can find a delay that works.

Thanks for responding quickly.

When I turn my TV on i get an "HDMI integrity error". I have to then press the reset button for 10 seconds for it to reset and then my cable turns on. I was advised to get another box. So I switched it out for a new one. Then I was told to buy a higher quality HDMI cord. So I did and it did not fix the problem.

jmc0159 - Since it is an HDMI fault, the sure fire solution is to eliminate the HDMI connection. Use component instead. See this link for the kind of cable needed - http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-Component-Video-Cable-Audio/dp/B001ID829O/ref=pd_rhf_dp_shvl1

When using be sure to disconnect the HDMI cable from the u-verse box.

@jmc0159

Have you tried swapping boxes, if you have and the problem is still there, it's your TV.  Try HD Component and you won't have those issues.  As for buying the  highest quality HDMI cable, doesn't make a difference if it's a $200 Monster cable or a $5 cable from monoprice.
