ATT is not getting out of the tv business. They are rolling out fiber, have a new app for tv service, and ATT owns DirectTV which was a recent purchase.

This is completely true, but at the same time, it's an interesting business decision. From what I've heard, AT&T would really love their customers to migrate towards DirecTV, as that costs them less per subscriber. At the same time, they're rolling out GigaFiber. A few years ago, they stopped rolling out U-Verse (4 streams) to new cities, but would continue to "fill in gaps" in local neighborhoods.

Why do both?

I recently installed uverse with fiber optic to the condo building.  Signal of course comes to my apartment on phone lines.  I am happy with speed and lack of glitches -- no pixelations yet, picture clear and strong consistently.  Only problem is managing dvr recordings; total of four tuners in dvr becomes a problem.  I hope att will not drop tv, but this sounds like that "fake news" stuff that is designed to sound sensational.  Trouble is that it's just a business decision, therefore possible?
