HBOgo

We pay for HBO, Showtime etc. we use the HBOgo app, Showtime anytime app, etc so when we travel we can still watch our shows.

Now if we connect through someone else's AT&T wifi, we are unable to log into our hbogo unless they also have an HBO subscription.

Part of the reason we pay for the subscription is the versatility of being able to watch shows while we travel for work and play. Denying access to a paid subscriber is not right and I want to know why this has changed all of a sudden and if this is how it is going to stay? We have our cell plan (two smart phones), internet and tv service through AT&T but I have no qualms about switching providers of any and all services to get the services I signed up for and not have them changed without any warning.

What I use internet for is none of your business and blocking my use of these subscriptions because of the internet portal I am on is akin to censorship.

Been going on for months and I've reported it numerous times. This is the first response I've gotten since June? July? Can't even remember how long ago. Hopefully they get it quickly.

There is no current ETA, but we are working on getting this issue fixed and will update this thread.

How hard can it be to just simply turn off the proxy function that is automatically attempting to log users in when accessing over a U-verse internet connection... Just REMOVE the feature! And just require users to log-in to their HBOGo account, no matter what internet connection they find themselves on.  It seems so asinine that paying customers have lost basic functionality of a service we're paying for, for the what? Convenience of not having to log-in every time? In what world does that make sense, or is that customer-centric in nature... That has to be the reason ATT has decided to implement this approach... I can't fathom that ATT thought this would be a solution to what I'll call "password" sharing, because it doesn't even serve to limit the sharing of passwords as long as you're not accessing it over a U-verse (non-subscriber) network... So why was this feature introduced in the first place?

Because I distinctly remember having to log-in each time I wanted access to my HBO Go account even when I was accessing it on my own home network, about a year and a half ago. So clearly that was a better system than what we have now-- I would much rather deal with the headache of having to input my UN and PW each and every time than to be without access to a paid service.

Like when I was housesitting for a week. And they didn't have HBO. But they had U-verse internet. And I couldn't watch a single thing... FOR SOMETHING I PAY FOR. Ridiculous. You should pay us all for our time and money wasted...

I have two AT&T accounts, one with Internet and Uverse TV and one with only internet.  I was having the same problem as everyone else on this posting.  I finally got around the ip address issue by using remote access to my computer at my home that has both interent and uverse tv.

I used Parrallels app on my iPad to access my home comupter and then I launched my explorer browser on my home comupter and went to the hbogo activation web page and selected my AT&T provider and was able to activate my hbogo.

Unfortunately, that doesn't sound like a feasible option for me when I am traveling and visiting my sister who has AT&T internet but no tv service. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to access something that is supposed to be available with the cost of the product.

I doubt AT&T is truely doing anything to fix this issue. It is now December and the issue is still happening. If they really did care about it they would, notify Customer Care (so they would be aware of this), temporarly remove any proxy blocks on internet accounts (I'm also a little scared to see what all they are blocking).

At the end of the day, it isn't really costing them anything to not fix it and fixing it could potentially loose revenue for them.

Hi,

Sorry about the inconveniences. Currently, U-verse users should be able to access HBO at another U-verse user location. When going to U-verse.com on your device at another U-verse user's house, it should prompt you with a different page warning you that you are trying to login at another location. From there, it will allow you to login with your U-verse ID. This will allow you to stream HBOGo on your device.

Hope this helps.

David,

Sorry, but this simply isn't my experience. I just talked with tech support (after several frustrating calls and they confirmed HBO Go will not work when at another location). There are no alternative login instructions that I can see on HBO Go (even after deleting and re-installing the apps).

If you have another solution (that doesn't require being on the phone with Tech Support for an hour), I'm all ears.

David,

This is still not working.  I am still being told that "it appears that your AT&T U-verse subscription does not include HBO."

I am given an "OK" button but the system will not allow me to log in.  When I attempt to "Select another provider", and click "AT&T U-verse", I just get the warning screen again and I cannot log in.

Hi,

I apologize about the issues. I tested on my end, and I get the same error when using the HBOGo app, but I have no issues viewing and playing content at Uverse.com. I will get some further clarification to see if HBO viewing is needed to be done on Uverse.com or if using the HBOGo app will work.

Hi,

I was able to verify that the message when trying to access HBOGo on an account without HBO service will still come up. For those that wish to view HBO content on accounts that do not subscribe to the HBO service, you will be able to access it on the Uverse.com site.

I have basically the same issue, but with a twist not listed.  I am a U-verse  U450 customer.  So, I have access to all of the premium channels.  However, I only have U-verse for TV.  I don't have it for Internet access.  So, when I try to login, I get that same message we are all talking about:

Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 10.23.02 AM.png

I have always been able to log into these premium channels from my iPad, iPhone and computer.  Now, I am not able to log into them from my own home!

When I call into AT&T, they have no idea what I am talking about.  They tell me that it is an issue with each of those providers, and that I need to contact them.  This is extremely upsetting.  There are many customers who do have the U-verse services but not the Internet portion.  I need to see this resolved soon, or I am going to have to change to another provider as I am not able to access the HBO Go, Cinemax GO, Shotime Anytime, etc. content for my Apple TV or Smart TV's in the house.  It really diminishes the value of the service that I am paying for.

I see that you are saying that I can access these items from the U-verse page.  I have not found how I can do that.  Please post a link or something that will direct me more specifically where that can be done.  But, beyond that, how would I access these apps through Apple TV and iPad?

Your probably looking for a more official response. That may take a while.

"I see that you are saying that I can access these items from the U-verse page.  I have not found how I can do that. "

That would be uverse.com via any browser. But, I think at&t demands that you  have both u-verse internet and TV.

ipad access is generally via an app because the ipad does not support the video software for the major browsers. I think that there are some less well known browsers that work. App or browser access would then be subject to provider restrictions.

I am not familiar with apple TV. It uses either the mac OS or the ios (iphone & ipad). I complained to apple that a mac computer should have the same software as the Apple TV, so I do not have to buy another box.

If you cannot access HBOgo via the Apple TV, you should contact HBO.

The portable device access to TV content sounds like a great feature. In reality, it is a field  of software and content landmines/restrictions. None favoring the customer.

Thank you for your response.  But, this does not address anyting that I was asking, and I don't want the conversation to be derailed because of it.  There is no question here about what Apple TV, the iPhone/iPad apps do or don't do in normal use.  As well, I do understand how all of these things work as well as why they work.  In fact, I have developed for some of these applications.  I just want to keep the posts on track pls.  I do appreciate your timely response, but please only post relative to the issue.

The issue is with an AT&T login requiring an AT&T Internet connection to get access to the premium content of HBO GO, Cinemax Go, Showtime Anytime, etc.  The actual TV content providers only require that you subscribe to the service.  However, the AT&T U-verse login is looking for an AT&T U-verse Internet connection to allow you to sign in.  If it sees a different Internet provider, it won't even bring you to the login page to acces the content.  This is the issue at hand.  I would love to see comments back on a work around or an actual fix.

The AT&T employee, and seemingly moderator, said there was a way to access these items from the U-verse site, more effectively.  If this is true, where on the U-verse site is this accessable?
