I can't install a wired reciever box myself?

I want to add TV in a bedroom. There is currently a wired cable connection present. I called AT&T and was told it would cost $198.00 for a wired receiver vs. $49 for wireless. I asked why wired was so much more and was told they send a technician to install the reciever - an extra $100 to plug in a cable? I don't get it. The AT&T salesman couldn't offer an explanation after spending over 1/2 an hour on the phone for a question that should take 5. If I add a receiver online, for purchase, it lists only the $49 one time activation fee and re-occuring $10 monthly fee.

Does  a technician have to install the wired as my home already has the coaxial plug & cable? Can't I just receive the box and plug in ? I spoke with 2 salesmen and both came up with differing amounts $150 & $198. My calls to AT&T customer service take way too long to get mediocre information. Thanks.

During your initial instal coax cables in the house are not connected if a tv isnt being used in that location, a technician needs to come out and trace that cable back to the side of the house and connect it to the rest of the services

I received a call from AT&T concerning this matter. If they run a new cable or simply hook up a wired box it is the same cost. The cost is for the technician to drive to your home. I went wireless.

I was just quoted $198 for the addition of 2 receivers and $7/ea per month for rental fee.  30 minute phone call.  Seems extremely high and ridiculous.
