I'm getting tired of this uverse
I became a uverse customer as soon as they put the node in my neighborhood. It is now almost 10 years later. I still have the same boxes, same controllers same OLD equipment. My son who lives a few blocks away Is forced into Comcast because mo mode nesr him. But hes had Comcast for two years and they just updated his boxes and controllers. Whats up ATT?

I have had many remotes changed out at no charge since 2008. I have had my DVR changed and my two STB's replaced with wireless ones. Again, no charge. The only thing that hasn't been replaced is my residential gateway. The remotes failed, but the DVR & STB's were just too slow so I asked for them to be replaced.
Again, none of this was a chargeable item.
I would suggest that you follow the link above and send a PM to Uverse Care. They can assist you.

To be fair, Uverse was launched in Detroit in 2007 so you've had it for 8 years, not 10.
That being said, if your equipment has lasted those 8 years, then yes, you should be due for new(er) equipment. Follow the link as suggested to contact Customer Care.

Actually started in San Antonio, TX was the original test bed in late 2005, became the original market 6/26/06. Houston was next in 11/06, then Chicago, San Fran, Oakland, Hartford, Indy.
5/2007 Detroit got Uverse, I got it it 7/08 when they finished and lit the VRAD by me. Detroit was first to get Uvoice in 2008.

The OP had indicated in earlier posts that they lived in Detroit...hence the Detroit reference.

You have to love folks who say "I've had U-Verse for x number if years, when you know that it's not possible.
I exppect someone to say "Alexander Graham Bell" is an old childhood friend, or somesuch.

Recently I was called by a person claiming to be an AT&T employee, I called to alert AT&T and the salesman talked me into going from my excellent DSL to Uverse stating it was faster, cheaper.
He stated three lies.
1. It's faster.
2. It's cheaper.
3. if you don't like it you can go back to DSL.
We got Uverse and you cannot operate more than one computer at a time unlike the DSL, you cannot play an XBox on line game and operate a computer. You cannot operate a computer and watch a ROKU.
It is slow. Slower than what we had before.
I called to change back to our fast DSL and was told we could not change back.
They stated we can charge you more for faster speed, then said, you don't have a faster speed in your area.
They stated you can watch TV on your PC, but, that service is not in our area either.
The service is cheaper by basically $9.00 not enough to compensate for our loss of really high speed service.
They then offered to change our land line home phone to Uverse router home phone.
I laughed like a mad man and said, "Please don't do me anymore favors" I told them their Uverse sucked and they said "Watch your language" I said shut up.
I have been an AT&T customer for years, cell phone, ISP and land line I pay my bills on time and when due in full.
Up until Uverse I was happy with AT&T.
No more, AT&T lied to me and made my internet slower and made operating more than one game or PC impossible.
I am not happy.
Uverse sucks.
